Things to do in St. Louis

St. Louis is known as the "Gateway to the West", but don't go West just yet, because you'll want to see what this beautiful city has to offer first. This city is known for it's signature style tastes, it's famous pro sports teams, and it's Blues music sound heritage. If your heading to this metropolis on the Mississippi, then prepare yourself to have a great time!

Every city has it's own signature tastes and St.louis is no exception, so here are a couple of choices to get you started. If your feeling fancy and want to treat yourself to fine wine, great food, and romantic white linen tables, then the Top of the Riverfront is for you. Located on the 28th floor of the Millennium Hotel, this five star revolving restaurant offers spectacular panoramic views of the city, including the famous St. Louis Arch. There are great choices on the menu including various steak and fish entries. Don't go for lunch though, because except for a great Sunday brunch, this restaurant is only open for dinner. Now if your looking to dine somewhere a little less fancy, than how about feasting on some St. Louis style BBQ. Just seven miles from the downtown area, Ropers Ribs has some of the greatest mouth-watering BBQ in the area. Their juicy menu includes tantalizing jumbo fried shrimp, enormous rib tips, lean baby back ribs, and of course, St. Louis style ribs. You may have to carry out your food because the dining room is a bit small, but the taste will drown any hassles away.

If your a music fan, then St. Louis will definitely bring music to your ears. St. Louis has long been known for it's Blues heritage and has put out such talent as Nelly, Gretchen Wilson, and Tina Turner. Many big names such as these, can be seen at various venues in and around St. Louis, such as the Scottrade Center, the Fabulous Fox Theatre, and the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. If your not into large crowded arenas, then you may want to check out one of the many Blues clubs. A quite popular club, is the Broadway Oyster Bar. Just a short stroll from Busch Stadium, this club offers a wide range of Cajun and Blues bands and the place is always hopping. This club has an outdoor patio and on Monday nights, the Blue Oyster offers a variety of distinct Soulard Blues bands, a sound that is synonomous with St. Louis Blues.

If your into sporting events, particularly baseball, then you'll want to check out the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals play at Busch Stadium which is located right downtown. The park opened in 2006, and has a modern/rustic feel and look to it. It's outside appearance includes red brick facade and black steel girders, that mimic some of the city's area bridges. Once your inside the park, look towards centerfield and you'll instantly notice the spectacular view of downtown. When your hungry, Busch stadium offers a variety of foods as well. Beef and pork sandwiches, turkeys legs, roasted corn, hot dogs, and ruebens are just to name a few. As far as the team, the Cardinals are one of the the most winningest teams of all time, including fifteen National League pennants and nine World Series championships. The friendly fans are some of the most loyal in all of baseball so your sure to strike up some great baseball conversation.

These are just a few things that you can do in this "Riverboat City", and whether your a food critic, have a music fetish, or are just a plain old sport's nut, St. Louis is sure to satisfy your cravings for entertainment.
