Breast Implant Sizes: One Size Does Not Fit All
B cup, C cup, or what about a D cup? Actually, when you go into your plastic surgeon's office, it is not enough to tell him what cup you want to be. There are a lot of factors that determine the right size for your body and a specific cup may not look exactly like you expect. Your surgeon will help you on your quest to choose the perfect breast implant size for you.
The size of an implant is determined by the volume of liquid measured in cubic centimeters (cc) and range from 125ccs to the largest legal volume of 1200ccs. Most women choose somewhere in-between.
Typically, the implant appears smaller once it is in the body, so the surgeon will go 15 to 20ccs over what you have decided. This is because of settling, the amount of tissue present and just the natural shape of your chest.
Also, whether it is silicone or saline, smooth or textured, round or teardrop, all will affect the final size and shape of the implant inside the body.
Before going to the doctor, take pictures nude from the waist up and from different angles. (This is no time to be shy.) This way you can really examine your breasts and decide where and how you want to change your look.
Another good idea is to look through magazines or online before and after pictures of nude and clothed women to see what look you like. Of course, the pictures you choose should be of women similar in stature to yourself. After doing this preliminary research, you are ready to see your surgeon and clearly tell him what kind of results you want.
In the doctor's office, he will take measurements of your chest and consider your height and weight as well as your desires when he makes a recommendation. Some surgeons have practice implants you can wear in your bra to get the feel of the size and shape. If he doesn't, you can make your own practice ones with a baggie and some rice or you can buy inexpensive professionally designed sizing kits online.
It is important to continue on with your normal activities to see if the implants get in the way. If you work-out, jog, swim, or mountain-climb- whatever the activity, you don't want implants so big that they impede the things you enjoy doing.
Try on your favorite style of clothes to see how your breasts look. Will you have to get new clothes or change your style? The last thing you want is for the implants to force you to change your lifestyle. They are supposed to improve it!
You may think you want to go with a very large implant size in order to get your money's worth, but that may be a bad idea. There are complications that go along with them to include back pain, sagging and stretched skin. Your doctor will recommend a size that is a natural fit for your body type.
This is a very personal choice and the ultimate decision is up to you and what is going to make you feel the best about yourself. A good surgeon will be there to advise you, not push you into something you don't want. So choose a surgeon well and have a thorough consultation. Don't be shy and be clear about what you want.
