Consider Rhinoplasty To Reshape Your Nose

Rhinoplasty is one of the most common procedures in the realm of plastic surgery. This procedure aims to reshape and reposition the nose. Who is a candidate for rhinoplasty?

What does rhinoplasty surgery entail?

During this time, the surgeon will take the pictures of your current face and nose so you use these physical props to point out exactly what you would like done to your nose.

As the procedure begins, you will be placed under anesthesia. If it is a minor procedure, a local anesthesia will be offered. If the rhinoplasty is going to be extensive, a general anesthesia will be administered.

Once you are sufficiently anesthetized, the plastic surgeon will create incisions inside the nose. They will then perform the procedure needed to achieve the results that you and your surgeon have agreed upon. This could entail the surgeon shaving the bone down or building it up in certain places. Or it could mean moving and reshaping the cartilage in the nose tip.

The procedure can take anywhere from one to a couple of hours, depending upon the extent of the surgery. Once it is finished, you will get to go home as this type of plastic surgery is considered an outpatient surgery.

Once you go home, you will need to be prepared for the effects of the surgery. You will have plenty of bruising and swelling and some of the side effects, such as black eyes, will look like you got into a fight. You will need to sleep or nap with your head above your chest so that any fluids that need to drain will drain out of the nose and not remain and collect there. Additionally, your nose will be packed with gauze to help absorb the fluids and also to help set the new shape of the nose from the inside. This gauze is typically removed by the surgeon a week after the surgery.

Eventually the swelling and bruising will subside within the first few weeks and months. However, it is possible that your final results may not be visible until a year after your initial procedure.
