A Guide to Caring For Baby Clothes

Baby clothes get worn and used and can easily start to look dingy. There are a few steps you can take to help your baby's clothes stay looking nice.

First, to help protect your baby from unnecessary germs you should be sure to wash their clothes before the first use. It is very unusual that your baby will be seriously harmed by the new, unwashed clothes but a small irritation or allergy might occur on the baby's sensitive skin.

Also, before purchasing the clothes try them on your baby. This is important because babies are sometimes sensitive to sizing.

To prevent issues try to put clothes on them in the store and check if the baby is comfortable. Shipping clothes home for your baby can be a bad idea, as they might have come in contact with many types of dirt, bugs or rodents.

Second, use the same detergent when you are washing your baby's clothes. This will keep your laundry schedule under control.

There are a few extra-gentle laundry detergents in the market especially targeting the baby clothing, but that doesn't mean that you have to use them to wash your baby clothes.

Some parents prefer to use dye-free, scent-free detergents to do laundry on the baby clothes. Choosing dye-free and scent-free detergents will reduce the risk of skin allergies on the babies.

These special detergents are often expensive. Most babies will not have a problem with the majority of laundry detergents.

If your baby isn't troubled with the clothes washed in the regular detergent then you don't have to buy special laundry soap just for the baby clothes. Feel free to continue to use the regular detergent used at home.

Third, keep up with your baby clothes laundry. This may be a difficult task because your baby probably goes through a lot of clothes, but it is important.

Staying on top of your laundry is important because babies go through so many outfit changes in a day that the pile continues to grow at an extremely rapid rate. You may wonder how you can ever keep up with the laundry.

There are two suggestions that can help you keep up with the endless clothes changing and the growing laundry pile.

One is to buy enough baby clothes so that you can change several outfits in a day and still have a few left for the next couple days. The second one is to buy fewer clothes and do the laundry several times in a week.

Choose the option which suits best with your budget and your schedule. One tip that you should consider is matching the baby socks right after doing the laundry.

Baby socks are so tiny that they can easily get lost. By matching them right away you will keep them in a pair and be able to find them more quickly right when you need them.

Fourth, learn how to remove stains from baby clothes. The best way to get rid of stains is to pre-treat them. Pre-treating stains is the method that will keep the clothes looking like new for a longer time.

Diaper accidents, stains occurred due to bright color baby food, and other accidents might make stain removal a super tough job. But taking time before washing the clothes and working on the stains can give you better results.

The best time to pre-treat clothes is right when the stain occurs. The longer you let a stain sit the more it sets in.

If you cannot clean the clothes immediately and let the stain remain on the outfit, then you should try using a paste-type pretreatment. A paste-type pretreatment can sit on the fabric for up to a week. Otherwise, a spray-on stain treatment or laundry additive should handle most stains.

There are always those stubborn baby clothes stains. Few stains tend to react with the basic treatment.

You may have to take a more forceful action on it. One of the unusual ways to get rid of a stain is to wash them with bleach. If bleach is not an option there are other intense cleansers that you can use depending on the type of stain.

When you make sure to keep your babies clothes clean and stain free you will be happier when you reach for a baby outfit in the morning. Be sure to take care of your baby's clothing because it helps them look better and last longer.
