Basic Information About Three Increasingly Popular Cosmetic Dentistry Methods: Bridges, Whitening, And Reshaping

Nowadays, everyone wants cosmetic dentistry enhancement. Every person would love to have a brighter, whiter smile (or perfectly straight teeth). Celebrities and move stars consider cosmetic dentistry a must-have to be successful. Why should the everyday person do without? They shouldn't; every person deserves to have a perfect smile.

Improved technology and modern procedures have greatly reduced the expense of cosmetic dental methods to an easily affordable level, even for the everyday person. While it is true there are many different procedures available, this article will focus on only three methods: whitening, contouring, and bridges.

Let's presume you have all your teeth. Let's also assume your teeth are straight and aligned. But what if three or four of your teeth are a bit longer than the rest, or maybe they are cracked? How can a dentist fix your particular problem? One method of cosmetic dentistry, called contouring and reshaping, can certainly help.

This method of cosmetic dentistry can alter your teeth length as well as their overall shape. It is one of the quickest methods available to cosmetically enhance your teeth. The process is relatively easy to perform.

If you have one or two teeth that are too long, your dentist will shave a few millimeters of enamel from their surface. If you have a few teeth that need their length extended, your dentist will add tooth-colored laminate. The alignment of all your teeth is the ideal goal. Your dentist will add to (or trim) their length to make them proportionate to your other teeth.

Contouring is generally believed to be a safe procedure because only a minimal amount of enamel is removed from your teeth. The procedure is a quick one and can be completed in one or two dental visits. Although it is definitely a quick fix, its life expectancy is only about ten years.

Bar fights and car accidents are dramatic ways to lose teeth. Cavities can also lead to missing teeth. You should replace a missing tooth as soon as possible with an implant or possibly a bridge. If there is considerable time delay when replacing a tooth, your surrounding teeth may shift and move from their position, which could potentially lead to additional problems.

A bridge features two crowns and an artificial tooth between them. The official name of the artificial tooth is a "pontic". It takes the place of your missing tooth.

For your dentist to install your bridge, he or she will have to remove enamel from the teeth that sit adjacent to the missing tooth. After the necessary amount of enamel has been trimmed, your dentist will craft a mold of your teeth and forward it to a lab. While you wait for the lab to create your bridge, you will need to wear a temporary one. Once your bridge arrives, you will need to visit your dentist again and he or she will permanently cement the bridge into position. The life expectancy of a bridge is anywhere from ten to fifteen years.

Stained and discolored teeth are a product of tea, coffee, and soda consumption. The more you consume any of those three types of beverages, the sooner you will see a slight stain or discoloration on your teeth.

To have a nice, white smile is usually just a matter of getting your teeth whitened. The goal for teeth whitening systems is to lighten your visible teeth by two or maybe three shades.

While you can certainly purchase whitening kits from your local grocer, your dentist has direct access to more powerful whitening kits that will not only whiten your teeth faster, the whitening effect lasts significantly longer than over-the-counter kits. Here is a list of a few of the procedures that your dentist can offer you: chemical whitening, laser whitening, abrasive and acid whitening. Your dentist can even provide you with a whitening kit that you can bring back to your home and use at home.

Cosmetic dentistry has advanced dramatically over the years - results have improved and costs are down. The most recent materials are far superior to compounds that were used just a few short years ago. If you desire to have a beautiful smile, you really should call your city dentist and make an appointment.
