Make Up For A Pin Up Girl

One of my favourite make up looks of all time is the 1950s pin up era; recently this look has come back into fashion with celebrities such as Christina Aguilera and Amy Winehouse following its lead. I think the look is fantastic and Bettie Page definitely knew how to achieve this look easily. With her dark eyes and red lips she oozed sexiness and style. Here are a few make up tips in order to achieve this look and guarantee all eyes on you!

Step One. Invest in some good make up brushes. Never underestimate how good quality brushes can enhance your make up and its application. Your eyebrows should be well-groomed too in order to achieve this look. Make sure the inner parts of your brow are the thickest, getting thinner toward the tips. If you are fair-haired it is worth pencilling your eye brows in with a pencil in order to achieve a dramatic look that will suit the rest of your make up.

Step Two. Find a foundation to suit your skin tone, choosing a lighter one if you cannot find an exact match. All pin up girls had perfect skin without any blemishes so getting your foundation right is important. Make sure you rub all the foundation in as you don't want a line around your neck!

Step Three. Using a large make up brush, add highlighting powder to all the parts of your face that light would naturally fall on to. This is the forehead, nose, cheekbones and your chest too if you want to look really glam.

Step Four. The eyes are the most important part of this look. Eye shadow bases are usually really good to start with, before adding the dark kohl. I would recommend a thin make up brush and kohl which you add a small amount of water to. Keep the line thick and close to the lash line before curving it slightly at the end. How thick you make this line and how far you curve it can depend on how dramatic you want to look. Then apply a thick, black mascara and for a evening look perhaps add some false eyelashes.

Step Five. Be brave with your eye shadow, choose a dark colour and work your way up the entire eyelid and blend. Gold glittery make up can look fantastic with his look.

Step Six. Apply to the apples of your cheeks a rosy powder that goes up to your cheekbones. Liquid tints can also be very good for this look and will make sure you glow all day. Don't forget to blend all your makeup carefully and that fingertips are very good for doing this.

Step Seven. Finish the entire look with a daring red lipstick, the bolder the better! If you are unsure on whether red will suit your skin tone, remember there are so many different shades of red and an orangey shade can sometimes be more flattering to some tones.

Now enjoy your glam pin up look! Remember to take care of your make up brushes in order to get the best result. Especially your kohl brush, that needs to be in good condition for those neat lines. The best way to keep your make up brushes in good condition is to wash them regularly in warm water with a bit of shampoo to keep them soft. Do not leave them to dry in too hot an environment or they will become too bristly and lose their softness.
