How To Protect Your Suits With Wooden Hangers

Do you wear suits and travel often for business or pleasure? Would you like a tip on protecting your suits while you travel? The right garment bag and suit hanger can preserve the life of your suit and prevent wrinkles and stains while you travel. When a good suit costs hundreds of dollars, it makes sense to take good care of it and make it last for as long as possible.

Different Hangers for Different Purposes
Wooden hangers are by far the best option to keep your suits from wrinkling. There are several varieties of wooden hangers to choose from, so pick the one that works best for you. There are hangers with a bar across them to hang your slacks on, and ones without the bar for hanging sports coats and blazers. Some hangers are designed with a curved edge to help coats maintain their shape, while others have flatter edge to keep trousers from wrinkling. When you buy hangers, look for a design with a slight curve on the edges to prevent unsightly bumps and bulges in your suit coat.

Hangers for Traveling
If you travel frequently, you should keep that in mind when you buy hangers. It is helpful to bring your favorite garment bag along when you purchase hangers. You should make sure that the hangers actually fit inside the bag before you purchase them. You should also be consistent and buy a set of hangers in the same style and size, so your garment bag will hang neatly over your suits. By using one uniform type of hanger, you will make the garment bag easier to carry. Use the hangers with garment bags made of canvas, nylon or leather to keep your suits clean and wrinkle free.

Hangers Help you Keep your Pants On
Look for hangers with an attached bar for trousers to keep your slacks from wrinkling. This will simplify your load and create less bulk to carry around when you travel. When you hang trousers and coats on the same hanger, you will have more room in your garment bag for additional outfits, shirts, belts, and neck ties. If your slacks tend to slide off the bar, attach a small strip of Velcro to the bar on each edge. This will keep your pants from sliding off and landing in a wrinkled heap in the bottom of your garment bag. Tiny Velcro strips can also secure ties and keep them from sliding to the bottom on the bag.

Always avoid purchasing hangers with metal clamps. While these clamps are meant to hold trousers tightly in place, they often leave unsightly creases and marks. These creases are very difficult to get out, and could cost a fortune at the dry cleaner for pressing that was not needed.

Wooden hangers are a bit more expensive, with a good one starting at around $10.00, and the price going up from there. This often scares people away, since they think the cheaper ones are just as good, but remember, you get what you pay for. A high quality wooden hanger could last a lifetime without breaking or bending. They are truly a wise investment for men who wear suits and ties on a regular basis.

Remember, quality counts. What you buy today can give peace of mind tomorrow, and for a long time to come. The next time you carry your garment bag through a busy airport or train station, you can be confident that your suits are well protected and wrinkle free on sturdy wooden hangers.
