Making The Jewellery By Hands
The very first step in making any of the beautiful things is a sketch design made by a professional jewellery designer.
Earrings are probably one of the most popular jewellery for the women. The earrings compete with the rings for the leading position on the jewellery market. The variety of the material and gems used and the designs are vastly versatile. The pendants hold the third position after the ring and the earrings. The main part of the pendants is the basis which could be produced manually or by mouldings and could have many different forms.
Most of the chains are made in the manufactures on the special machineries completely or semi automatic. It is possible to produce the chains manually by soldering using different tools like mandrel, pliers, burner, draw-plate, and pincers. The final stage of making a chain manually is polishing.
The bracelets are most like the most metal consuming items. The montage techniques, the tools used in producing different items like the pendants, pins, necklaces, studs, and cufflinks are similar to those used to make earrings and rings. The same applies to the decor styles, materials, designs. Filigree items could be made with different complicated lacy designs, also by soldering technique.
It is not that complicated to make a jewellery manually - it does not require too many different tools or equipments. The everyday tools like cutting pliers, hammers or more special equipments like a burner or polishing brusher are the not that difficult to find. But the most important are the skills. The talent and qualification of a designer are the essence of the success, to make beautiful things one need to invest lots of efforts and time into first learning how to make it.
Since a long time the jewellers tried to make their best to achieve the best possible forms which would make the diamonds shine its best. The first attempts were the simplest ones - the masters would cut one of the edges and then polish the flat surface.
In 1465 the royal jeweller to the Count of Burgundy Ludwig van Berkem was the first to try to cut the diamond in a shape of a rose. Many years the scientists and the masters tried to develop a perfect diamond shape that would provide the best options for the light dispersion in a diamond. Nowadays the classical is the cut when a diamond has 57 facets - 33 in the upper part and 24 in the lower. The diamonds of smaller sizes have 17 edges.
In 1961 the new technique was developed by Arpad Nagy. It took him 13 years to develop this new technology known as "Profile cut" and which is also called "Princess". Afterwards, "Princess" became an overarching term for different techniques of the profile cuts. Lately this type of faceting became most widely used.
The process of searching for the perfect faceting technique started in the ancient times and it is still ongoing even nowadays. Today the standard is the classical form which is still the most popular and most widely used. It is this classical cut which is considered primary basic, the others are still variations.
