Lose That Weight With Style
Popular media would have you think that the only way to look good is to be as slim and sculpted as those models you see in fashion shows. In reality, though, you can look good no matter what your bathroom scale reads. So what if you are overweight? So what if you wear XXL clothes? As long as you stick to a few rules of dress and style, you can make yourself much less horizontally challenged than the measuring tape will tell you.
Find the Fat Free Fit
When you are tipping the scales into the obese classification, it is time that you gave some serious thought about how your clothes fit you. Ill-fitting clothes will only make you look even larger, consequently making your entire appearance look worse. Clothes that fit well, on the other hand, should draw the viewers attention away from the things that you do not want to be seen, and improve the visual balance and proportion of your body.
If there is anything you should never wear, it is clothes that are too tight. The tendency of too-tight clothes is to hug every single contour of your body, and that will only serve to underline the fat and bulges that you were trying to hide in the first place. This is made even worse if the fabric is stretchy, such as certain blends of cotton and Lycra.
Look for shirts and tees that fit you right at the shoulders, but fall away from your body as it goes down. You are looking for some drape so that the fabric wont cling to your body, effectively hiding the curves that you dont want to be noticed. At the same time, resist the temptation of getting clothes that are simply too big. You would end up with the same problem of a body that looks disproportionate in ill-fitting clothes.
Consider the Cuts
The shape and cut of the clothes you wear will also be an important factor, as certain types just are not suited for your kind of body. Tapered shirts, for example, are a big no-no as the will hug your body more and more as it goes down. A regular fit for bottoms is another thing you will want to steer clear of because, well, your bodys not exactly a regular fit. Deconstructed clothes are also a bad idea because you will look sloppy besides just big.
Wear clothes that have a bit of structure to them because they will draw the eyes of the viewer to the silhouette of the clothing and away from the curves of your own body. At the same time, more structured clothing will be less likely to cling unnecessarily to your body, thus averting the problem pointed out earlier.
For pants and jeans, you will want to look for low-rise cuts, which are the ones with minimal distance between waistband and crotch. They will help put your body back into visual proportion, while at the same time minimizing the effect of your belly on the overall look. Flat-front pants and jeans are also a good idea because they will make your legs look longer, slimmer and straighter.
The clothes you wear can make a significant difference in the way you look. Just wearing the right combination of clothes can make you look much thinner than you would had you spent a month in the gym.
