Restylane - The First Hyaluronic Acid Filler - Minimally Invasive Surgery

There are several injectable preparations for correcting facial lines. Each of these has its uses and advantages. It is important that you have the choice of different injections to best fill your specific needs. All injections can be performed in just a few minutes to complete. As such they are suitable as "lunchtime" treatments. They are often combined with muscle relaxation injections for the best effect.

The dermal filler is injected into the skin to elevate depressions such as acne scars or lines associated with ageing. It is a simple, non-surgical procedure that can be completed within 15-30 minutes depending on your particular needs.

Straight after treatment the skin over the treated area may look slightly raised and a little reddened. The area can be covered with oil-free make-up. The raised area will become flatter over the following 24 hours and normal color should return quickly. The amount of settling, and how long it takes, will vary from person to person.

The product used is suitable for minimizing facial lines, especially cheek folds, and scars. The exciting part of this treatment is the long-lasting effect, with results still present after 18 months.

Restylane is a clear hyaluronic acid, non-animal derived gel, similar to that naturally occurring in our skin. When injected in tiny amounts through a very fine needle, this hyaluronic will provide volume and restore fullness. This result is instant and produces a natural benefit that is gentle and safe to the skin.

Restylane is a natural cosmetic product that fills in wrinkles, furrows, and enhances lips. In contrast, Botox is a drug that relaxes underlying muscles that produce frown lines, forehead wrinkles, crow's feet, lip lines, chin dimpling, and neck banding. Many patients have been pleased after receiving treatment with both products.

This hyaluronic acid filler is proven to deliver a longer-lasting effect than traditional bovine collagen. Bovine collagen is derived from animals, i.e. cow and requires an allergy test. Because this filler is non-animal-based, it can be administered without pretesting. Immediate treatment is therefore available. Another collagen product grown in human cell culture, Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast, are alternative fillers that also can be used immediately, as skin testing is not necessary.

Studies have shown that the average treatment results last six months or so. Evidence shows that having a touch up treatment before the product is fully dissipated will enhance the lasting effect.

This dermal filler has been used safely by dermatologists since 1996 worldwide. Because Restylane is a genetically engineered non-animal- based and fully biocompatible product, allergy testing is not required. The most commonly reported side effects include temporary redness and swelling at the injection site that typically resolve with two to three days. Other less common side effects have also been reported and we will discuss these with you before treatment.

This dermal filler has been used in more than one million treatments in over 60 countries to correct a variety of wrinkles and to enhance the appearance and fullness of lips. In the U.S., it is currently indicated for mid to deep dermal implantation for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as smile lines, furrows, and marionette lines, and can refill and contour lips.

No pretesting required, but patients should take a few precautions before being treated. You should avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John's Wort, and high doses of Vitamin E, prior to treatment, because these may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

This filler is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts by a fine needle, resulting in minimal discomfort. The procedure is simple and convenient, and results are practically instantaneous. To optimize your comfort during this short procedure, we may anesthetize the treatment area.
