What Every Potential Buyer Wants To Know About You

Every single bidder wants to know that they can go ahead and bid with confidence. They want to feel reasonably assured that:

1) You've accurately represented the item and you'll ship it out in a timely and effective manner and

2) That you're worthy of their trust and they won't get ripped off.

Present yourself as a credible person and reputable business. But all any fellow eBayer has to go on to distinguish one seller from the next is their user name, the Feedback Score tied to that name, and their own previous experience with the seller. Most user names are nothing more than disguises. Buyers don't really have much of a clue who you're dealing with when they stumble upon an interesting listing unless they recognize he seller's name and have had past dealings with the same seller. Knowing the user's name is imadufusru12 doesn't make anyone any more confident to proceed.

But what can make a huge difference is a seller's Feedback Rating. I find the eBay Feedback System to be both brilliant and incredibly frustrating. Brilliant because it gives every user the opportunity to share brief details and rate their overall satisfaction with the transaction and the item purchased. But it's also frustrating when you bend over backwards to serve your customers and they turn around and leave you neutral or negative feedback.

It makes me a little crazy, particularly when their beef is due to the time it takes for the post office to deliver the parcel. Once a package is turned over for delivery to the post office, there's nothing the seller can do except pray the package reaches its destination intact and in a timely manner. But when it doesn't, you better brace yourself for the fallout.

Thankfully, 99% of the time, that's exactly what happens. But once in a while, the voodoo dolls come out to play and your shipment goes astray. I've had everything from lost packages that never turn up to those that resurface inexplicably a month or two after the fact with an undeliverable to this address label, even though it's the exact address provided by the buyer. As far as the buyer is concerned, he's unhappy because of the delay and feels justified in leaving you negative feedback, even though you did your part to the best of your ability. Such is the life of an eBay seller.

You see, the buyer doesn't know you. Chances are it's his first transaction with you. Let's suppose he goes ahead and bids, and actually wins your item. At this point, your buyer is ecstatic and filled with anticipation. But as each day passes with no item in sight, that happy anticipation turns into an agonizing wait.

The winning bidder hopes that you shipped the item straight away and that you got the address right. But he has no personal experience in dealing with you. All he has to go on is the feedback previous buyers or sellers have left. If all your feedback indicates that you're an upfront and honest seller, the buyer probably feels some reassurance. In fact, he probably wouldn't have even bid unless there was an adequate level of comfort and security.

Buyers on eBay are like buyers anywhere else. They want to feel as though the seller values them and that if there's ever a problem (such as a lost shipment) that they will be taken care of, either by receiving a replacement item, or a full and immediate refund. Buyers want to feel safe and secure and assured that they'll get exactly what you promised in your listing, without any excuses.
