The Other Side of Resistance - 5 Easy Steps to Working in the FLOW

Have you ever been stuck in a space that feels unproductive, resisting what needs to be done; at odds with your vision; walking in circles; questioning the "why" you are not comfortable with the tasks at hand, and practicing self-chastisement for wasting time and energy? Where on a scale of 1-10 (10-feeling the most resistance) do you feel you are right now?
Do the words procrastination or resistance haunt your dreams and desires?
Well, the good news is that on the other side of these two huge words lies a clear vision with purpose and renewed passion. Let 's look at what procrastination and resistance really mean in your life and what insights you will receive by exploring the underlying reasons behind these issues.
How often have you heard procrastination defined as "getting ready to get ready?"
This clichГ© only describes your actions and is not the true meaning of why you are experiencing procrastination or resistance. Procrastination is a symptom of "fear." Underlying beliefs of rejection, self- worth and self-esteem, and/or lack of skill sets (the list can be daunting!), all fuel the 'putting off till another day or time.' This actually compounds the chaos and stress in your life. By buying into faulty and self-limiting beliefs you embrace and exalt the "ego 's " power in controlling your life.
Do you desire to stay in this same place over the next six (6) months? What if you choose to change your old beliefs and focus on new healthy choices about your life?
Resistance is also related to 'control.' The difference between procrastination and resistance is that resistance is not based on fear but on misalignment. Resistance is a poweful tool to help you understand when you are not working in spiritual flow; not embracing your hearts desire and out of synch with your vision and purpose.
Procrastination and resistance are effects, not causes. In both cases, chaos reigns by your feelings of confusion, disorder and turmoil. What these symptoms really express is the "ego 's " need for control. Both attempt to repress thoughts and feelings into your consciousness.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a few practical steps to help you move beyond resistance?
Aren't you tired of trying to figure everything out? When you accept that you are experiencing these feelings - then you are heeding the call of your soul. It is time to re-clarify your vision and align it with your soul.
Recently I felt great resistance in my business direction. I was spending a lot of time researching internet marketing/advertising while my thoughts kept moving towards design, painting, writing and/or teaching. The result: Stress! Resistance! Overwhelment! Once I accepted my resistance, I took some time to step back and have a really good look at what was causing my procrastination and resistance. It became very clear to me that I was out of alignment with my vision and projecting what I THOUGHT were solutions. I was putting a lot of time and energy into my distractions rather than staying on purpose. Not doing what felt good to me only made me resist even more and yes - added more and more stress and more resistance. So I made a conscious choice to re-clarify my purpose, let go of things that didn't align with my vision and 'trust in the process' of living as a soul inspired being. Phew! That felt absoltuely fantastic!
Here are five (5) easy steps that I beleive will help you move to the other side of procrastination and resistance:
1. What part of you is making the decisions? When faced with choas, stress and overwhelment, ask yourself, "is this a result of 'ego' or 's oul' making the choices in my life?' Too much thinking leads to a confused mind. A quiet mind and an open heart will allow your truth to be heard and felt.
2. Re-clarify your vision. Are your choices aligned with your vision? What decisions make you feel energized and passionate? How will your choices affect your life in the next six (6) months?
3. Build the capacity to focus/concentrate. How often have you witnessed the '30 second' mentality world? Unfortunately, this style of living decreases your ability to focus and concentrate for extended periods of time. Focus and concentration are skills that need to be developed like any other muscle in your body. If this is diffulcult for you - try setting a kitchen timer for 15 mintues and committ to working in that time frame. As you build your capapcity for concentration, you will be able to work longer periods of time and produce greater results.
4. Trust in the process. The 'how and when' is not your concern. Day-to-day commitment and persistence will manifest your intentions and fulfill your vision.
5. Infuse your vision with the sense of "PLAY." You have been given a new opportunity to imagine and create. Everything seems much easier when you approach life with a sense of joy, laughter and spirit.
Working with these five (5) practical steps will help you reduce stress, clutter and distractions from whatever you choose to change and build into your life. Soon you will be absolutely amazed at how easily things get done and how fantastic you will feel. The burden of 'having to control' is released and once again you are on track and following your path.
The good news is that on the other side of procrastination and resistance
lies a clear vision with purpose and renewed passion!
The following quote by Edith Armstrong, Creative Thought, June 2007, is one I particularly like when I find myself out of alignment with my spiritual journey. Enjoy!
"I keep the telephone of my mind open to peace, harmony, health, love, and abundance.
Then when doubt, anxiety, or fears try to call me, they keep getting a busy signal
- and soon they'll forget my number."
