What Heart Lesson Has Your Mother Taught You?

My mom is a beautiful woman who always wants the best for everyone. It amazes me that after being through the war and many life-changing events, she maintains a sensitivity to the needs of others. She is my inspiration. Even her name is beautiful…Lucretia.

In her 60’s she started painting. This waiting gift arose, giving her an outlet for her inner beauty. She finds smooth rocks, tenderly holding each one to make sure it is just right. Then she allows her heart to guide her in choosing colors and specific flowers to give this carbon form a life of its own. These rocks are then given a name such hope, love, peace, each unique to what she feels it is telling her, which is then written on the back.

They are aptly named “Angel Rocks” and are given to the local cancer society-counseling department. She also gifts them to anyone who needs something to hold on to or to celebrate. I have yet to hear of anyone who has received one of her angel rocks who doesn’t cherish it. Many people keep them in their pocket when going through treatment or a particularly rough time.

Her reason for doing this?

“When I pick up a rock it reminds me of creation, of nature. It connects me to the beauty, peace, and calm, even through the storms of life. I wanted to be able to comfort people who had to face radiation, chemotherapy and all that comes with cancer. I wanted those people to be able to hold onto something tangible. My wish is that these rocks, which are painted with love, bring comfort, hope and peace in their difficult journey. It still amazes me how something so small, can mean so much to someone. From my heart to yours”

Our mothers’ have so much wisdom and depth to share. It is in this stage of my life that I focus more on who she is and what she has accomplished. In many ways she is a mirror to my own being. I look at her gentle hands and her smooth cheeks, which are associated with much love and tenderness. I want to lift her up, shelter her and protect her.

She has taught me invaluable traits to being an empowered woman:

Be authentic. Be secure in the knowledge that you are unique and valuable. It is harder to do when we are young, because we don’t know who we are; yet there is a very strong inner wisdom about right and wrong. By living the truth of our core being, we attract that in our lives and suffer less frustration or regret.
Be a critical thinker. People are too easily swayed by hype and emotionalism. Learn to see the big picture, all the sides and theories; then make up your own mind. Truth is often uncovered by asking the right questions. We need to hear people out and often be a voice for them when they are unable to speak up.

You are woman and have a lot more power than you realize. This being especially true when finding out what women are able to do in this world, but also with men. It does little good to undervalue ourselves, and even though in many ways it is still a mans’ world, we can show our strengths without giving up our femininity.

Restrain yourself from judging. Get involved in some ones life and walk along side them. We all make judgments – its part of our nature. What we can avoid is not going the step further to really see with your heart. Judging often only serves to make ourselves feel more superior.

Always leave the house looking your best! You never know what opportunity may be around the corner… or who you will meet down the isle at the grocery store! When we look good, we often feel good about ourselves. It inspires confidence and attracts positive energy.

Dance around in the living room.... Have fun, bring out the inner child often to experience the wonder, joy and humor of life. Too often as an adult, life becomes difficult and we need to remember that there is a part of us that needs to be nurtured regularly. It is not about being childish....it is about being spontaneous and free to express ourselves.

Take some time to share your gift of lesson from Mom, with the people in your life and with me!……

Be Blessed
