There are some many reasons to own a home-based business that one wonders why everyone does not just do it. Despite the vast number of opportunities available to be their own boss, only 18% of Americans own their own business. This number is shocking because Americans are the most innovative and disgruntled workers in the world. But the respondents to a survey that asks American Workers whether they wanted to own a home based business reveals that many of these workers do want to own their own business.

Two hundred and fifty workers at a medical facility were asked that questions. The job descriptions of the surveyed workers were call center employees, mid management IT professionals

The following are some reasons why people stated why they wanted to own their own business:

1)Make More Money

These workers stated that they wanted to be in control of the amount of money they made. Some of the workers were upset that their salary was not keeping pace with inflation. One female employee complained that when the gas prices started going up, she had to make a decision everyday whether to eat lunch or put gas in her car. Another worker complained that he had not received a raise in three years.

2) I Want to Be The Boss: The satisfaction of working for yourself overrides any benefit that a job can offer. Being in control of your own salary, you own schedule, your own life is what having a home based business offers. The home business owner is in control of every aspect of the business. The creation of the business name to the day-to-day operations is part of the thrill of creating a future that appeals to your skill set, hobbies, or centered on your children.

3) Plan My Future and Retirement: Taking the reigns of your own life is important in uncertain economic times. It is not surprising that many workers who are getting ready to retire from their thirty-forty year business life are contemplating starting a business. Retirement income for most people is not enough to maintain the same lifestyle enjoyed while working.

4) Spend Time With Family: The flexibility that working from home provides is the major reasons that many mothers state for wanting a home based business. The ability to change working hours to suit the family is an important consideration for work from home parents. Taking longer vacations or planning vacations around the children's school schedule is important to parents. When they are able to schedule their own vacations because they are the only ones to consider is a gratifying experience.

5) No more commuting: Perhaps the best part of working from home is you roll out of bed put on your slippers and walk to work. The convenience of working from home is a major perk. You can work mornings or afternoons. Some work at home moms start work after the kids are in bed. Home based business owners find that the work that they do from home is more satisfying. The productivity level increases substantially.
