Success Planning begins with Goal Setting

Achieving success requires setting goals.  Much has been written about goal setting and for very good reason, because setting goals really works.

We all have dreams and goals but why are some achieving them and others are not?  The difference between people who achieve their goals and people who do not is as simple as writing them down. If you wanted to take a vacation and all you did was to say that you want to take a vacation but you did not put time aside for it or plan for the vacation, it would  be likely that you would never take that trip. Well it is the same way with goal setting.  It is important to commit it to paper as well as thought.

When you put your goals down on paper you begin to have a direction in life, it is like a road map.  As you commit your goals on paper you will find that you actually start to achieve them and this can become very motivating, and is essential for business Goal setting starts with the big picture.  Go for what you really want in life.  Do not be afraid to shoot for the stars and the moon.  As you start to give your attention to these dreams you are aligning yourself with their achievement just by giving them attention, energy and focus.

Then you can start to break it down.  Where do you want to be in 10 years?  Think about the steps that you will need to take along the way to get were you would like to be in ten years.  Then five years, and one year.  What are the monthly goals that you must achieve to get to were you want to be in one year.  Then take action.

You will want to create a daily plan that will have action steps that will little by little bring you up to were you want to be.  The little by little steps can be as simple as reading a book that will give you more insight to your future accomplishments and success strategy.

Keep a close watch on your plan.  You may need to make modifications along the way.  Sometimes it is necessary to alter the course, but always keep your eye on the goal. Give your goals priorities, this will keep you from getting overwhelmed and will allow you to focus on your most important goals first. As you start to achieve them one by one you will begin to feel more personal power. Be sure that your short term goals are believable and achievable to you.  If the goals are too far out of the reach of reality, you will have a hard time believing them and you will run the risk of getting discouraged and giving up altogether.  This is exactly the reason why so many people give up on their dreams of success.

Set your goals and attach the necessary activity to the goal without being attached to the outcome.  In other words if your goal is to loose 10 pounds, then your focus should be the activity of loosing weight such as going for a walk,  or counting the calories  rather than losing the 10 pounds.  If your focus is on the activity, the goal will get accomplished.

Sometimes it is hard to visualize the achievement of the big picture, but once you start to achieve small goals, and as you get closer to the bigger ones it will become easier to realizing them.  In other words, once you start to complete smaller goals, you will be able to see further.

Always take the time to celebrate the achievement of your goals along the way.  Success is sweet.  Savor it, and enjoy your accomplishments.  As you achieve your goals, you will create within you a feeling of well being with each accomplishment.  Each and every achievement will bring you that much closer to ultimate success.
