How to Make Money Online Selling Information Products
It doesn't matter if you want to own your own product or make affiliate sales for someone else's product--selling information products is one of the most popular and effective ways to make money online.
Most Internet marketers first make money online by selling other people's products. The most popular information product on the Web is the e-book. E-books have several advantages to the customer, affiliate, and product owner.
E-books tend to be tightly focused on a single problem or issue to a degree that store-bought, physical books often aren't. They typically have a great deal of valuable how-to information.
E-books also fill the need for instant gratification. Once bought, they can be downloaded in a matter of seconds. Most come with a 100% money-back guarantee, which shields the consumer from having to pay for junk.
One of the biggest reasons that affiliate marketers like electronic books is the high commission rate. Most of these products pay the affiliate anywhere from fifty to seventy-five percent per sale!
Electronic books are a great product for merchants as well. No more space is needed for a million copies of the work than is needed for one copy. And there is little to worry about in the way of shipping, handling, or overstocking.
Of course, e-books aren't the only information products that sell well on the Web. Instructional videos are becoming more and more popular. Membership sites are basically information products that subscribers pay for once a month.
As mentioned, affiliate marketers sell other people's information products for a commission--usually a large one. One of the primary tactics used in this endeavor is the email list. If you use a list, you will entice people to hand over their email address to you, often in exchange for a niche report or other helpful download.
In return, you will mail out informative and helpful emails to your list. These emails should help your readers deal with their concerns in whatever niche you're targeting.
If you're in the dating niche, then you'll want to give dating advice to your list (just don't give away the secrets of the books you're promoting). If you sell gardening and botanical e-books to your list, then gardening tips or even an electronic almanac might be in order. The important thing is to give value to your readers and show that you've got the goods, so that they'll be willing to at least click your affiliate link when you put it in your emails.
Eventually, you will likely want your own product to sell. If you are a strong writer and researcher, you might even want to write an e-book yourself! But don't worry if writing is not your forte. There are a couple of different solutions.
The most obvious one is to hire someone else to write your product for you. By the time you're ready to have your own product, you will have likely met people who ghost-write for Internet marketers, or at least run across a reliable outsourcing company or two.
You can also find PLR (private label rights) e-books for just about any niche. Once you find one you'd like to use (type "your niche"+"PLR" to locate private label material in your niche), simply change it up as you see fit. The level of rewriting you do is up to you. Then make (or hire someone to make) a unique cover, and add your name or pseudonym. This method is easier than writing the whole thing yourself, yet much less expensive than hiring a good ghostwriter.
Whether you want to be an affiliate marketer or aspire to someday own your own, information products are a great way to make money online while helping people achieve their goals.
