How To Make Money Online

As amazing as it sounds, there are very few rules to making money online. There may be hundreds of business opportunities and passive income streams that utilize these methods, but they rarely change, and have not evolved in the last few years.

Create a Product

One of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen in the business world is people who do not have a product to sell. They spend countless hours online, invest months of time and effort, but never create a product to sell.

One of the most common areas where this mistake is made is in the affiliate marketing industry. These business owners believe that their job is to put an advertising web site up for a product and then rake in the money.

Unfortunately, they forgot to make their own product. Their product may be a blog or, more often, a forum. It may be a live chat, or a myspace lens. The product itself doesn’t sell.

The product is meant to meet a consumer’s need to learn, solve problems, socialize, and improve their lives.

The business owner needs to spend their time selling their product. The affiliate link will take care of itself. Unfortunately, most of these people spend their time in other forums, and on other blogs, trying to get people to buy the product.

Solve a Problem

Most online sales solved a problem. They may let a home decorator find everything they need without driving to twenty stores, and wasting an entire summer worth of weekends.

Investment communities teach new investors how to navigate the stock market options and property investment trends. They teach people how to build the right mindset, and to start thinking in terms of wealth, instead of the common attitude of struggling to pay the bills.

Keep this in mind when writing articles, posting to a forum, or maintaining a blog. No one will stay on a website to read testimonials and be told how great a product is. However, they will bookmark a forum that is full of helpful tips and information which can solve their problems.

Promotion

There are dozens of methods of promoting a website. There are two aspects of promotion. First, increase the Page Rank. Second, increase the ‘inbound links.’

Increasing PR involves building a network, or becoming a member of a network where everyone tags each other’s articles, votes for their sites/blogs, and leaves comments in their forums/blogs. All of these things create a spider web of links across the Internet, each one drawing people to the website and eventually, the buy now page.

Networking

The most vital aspect of promotion and Internet marketing is the networks you build, and belong to. The network is designed to create a circle which continually brings visitors back to your website, forum, or blog. The network can involve blog catalogues, lenses like squidoo and myspace, and participation in forums.

Selling Online

The percentage of people who buy the first time they visit a website is so low that a site needs millions of hits a month to earn a reasonable income. This is not reasonable, so a web based business relies on its network.

Most people buy the third to the fifth time they visit the website, or receive a newsletter. Unfortunately, people are growing tired of newsletters and delete them, so it should include something free, of value.

This is one often overlooked method of selling. Thousands of web based businesses spend hundreds of dollars a month on Pay Per Click programs. Instead, they could offer a popular book at cost, costing them nothing, and standing head-and-shoulders above the competition.

A cheaper product would be a video seminar, free for download.

Do Not Quit

There is only one way to fail – quit. It takes time to build an effective business, whether online or brick-and-mortar. An investment in the business, or program, is an investment into yourself.
