Work At Home Success

The Internet is a great leveller. However, starting a work at home business is frustrating. The first ventures into the work at home arena results in hundreds of pages on Google’s search for the top, the best, the only real one, or the most fantastic work at home opportunity available.
There are no secrets to success. One person’s scam is another person’s opportunity. There is no perfect opportunity, or hot deal. Any opportunity will work, with time, determination, and knowledge.
Too many work at home entrepreneurs waste their opportunities by becoming career business investors. They try everything, quit every opportunity after a few months, and then move onto the next type of investment.
Focus
No one wants to fail. No one wants to waste money and time for months, only to come to the belief that you are not skilled enough to create a viable business.
Everything that goes wrong in a business is the business owner’s fault. Not enough customers is due to a lack of marketing. Slow sales could be a lack of demand on a product. But, it could also be that the business owner is not investing enough time into promotion.
Focus is the key to success. Take the time to learn, and take the time to explore. However, before you start spending hours every day surfing the web, reading sites, and joining clubs, make sure you understand the purpose of what you are doing. Don’t forget to run the business while you are learning how to run a business.
One business owner was doing well. They had invested $1000 for 150 articles, but then they read a report saying that blogging for money was a waste of time. They were upset to learn that it would take a year before they would make any money.
The same happens in the investing world. Unfortunately, this person never took the information in perspective. The website was promoting their own business, so of course they slammed others. This man’s enthusiasm was poisoned. He wouldn’t let anyone tell him how much they were making, or how successful he could become. He read a report, lost his focus, and wasted his time and money.
Procrastination
Boredom and procrastination can ruin a business before it starts. The web is full of work at home professionals who spend hours a day on their blogs, or answering emails, posting to forums, or reading the latest newsletter.
It is much easier to convince yourself that you need to read another free ebook, or to build another promo blog, than it is to actually spend time making the business work.
When polled, some work at home professionals were startled to realize they spent more than two hours every morning, procrastinating, before they actually got down to work.
Distractions
Working at home needs to be treated as a job. However, most home based business owners become caught up in distractions. They fix supper, put in a load of laundry, vacuum the rug, pick the children up from soccer, and run a few errands.
In the end, the business owner never actually focuses on their business.
I talked to one business owner who wanted to close their business after eight months. She said it wasn’t worth the time invested. I suggested she journal her daily activities for two weeks. In the end, she realized that she only worked 21 hours in the two weeks.
She was at the computer 70 hours, but she was not working. The rest of the time she was doing laundry and making supper.
Create an Entity
A business has a life of its own, whether a work at home operation, a steam of passive income, or an investment portfolio. It must be treated as such. To succeed it must be cared for and nurtured. Everything you put into a business will grow. Eventually, effort will turn into success.
