What Mike Dillard Forgot in Magnetic Sponsoring, Part Two

I bought and devoured Magnetic Sponsoring by Mike Dillard. I loved it, decided to follow it, planned how to do that, and got started. What he teaches in those pages contradicted most of what I have learned from my upline. I also appreciated that he pointed out and agreed with my view of some challenges I have found in network marketing. As I started working, I noticed that his book leaves out an important principle in building an mlm.

Magnetic Sponsoring is like the Kickoff
Mike Dillard takes the time to point out that you need years of training to create a recruiting system as great as his, which I don't doubt. He includes an impressive list of skills, contracts, services, technology, and work that took him serious time to put together. He deserves a round of applause, at the very least. Nice Job, Mike.

Remember the Pet Rock
No one likes to mention this in any business. If you look around, you'll see it everywhere, though. In cars, hotels, fashions, fads everywhere you look. Did you have a pet rock? Remember headbands? Leg warmers? Jennifer Aniston hair? Everything changes and new is always better. You almost can't expect Dillard to tell you this, but here it is:

By using his system, promoting his book, advertising and plastering it all over the web, you will eventually kill its effectiveness. You may have heard of the Tracy Biller training. This training, once the height of mlm marketing, included a totally revolutionary idea: buy lists of mlm genealogy leads and call them, especially from defunct companies. And now? When was the last time you saw it?

You may not even know what it is, which proves my point.

Within a few years or so, or some reasonable length of time, Mike Dillard and Magnetic Sponsoring will be yesterday's news. Some new e-book or audio training will take his place. I'll even predict that one day soon, he'll give the book away free just for signing up on his emailing list, or an affiliates list. Or as a bonus for buying another program like Black Belt Recruiting.

I know, it's sad, since he did shake up the industry with his book. But when we all blanket the world with ads to sell Magnetic Sponsoring, we dilute its allure. Trends seem to favor the more recent, unorthodox ideas.

Don't worry too much. Mike understands the system, he knows how marketing works, and he will come out on top.

You should ask yourself, though, where will you be when this book no longer converts for you, no longer brings in leads? Will you know how to do it yourself, or will you rely on Mike Dillard to produce a new book?

Read his book again. It is actually a book about a creating a system. In it, he gives you a list of a series of skills that you can master to build your own system and become a guru in your own right. If you want to be a guru.

Another Option
Granted, no one, Dillard included, would want to tell you this about their creation. Everyone wants a bestseller that stays a bestseller. Just thought you should know what you have gotten yourself into.

Creating leads works so much better than buying them - you have control over how many times they have been called, what you sell to them, and you make money doing it.

Another author has also seen the power in this model and provides an interesting alternative to Magnetic Sponsoring. Her name is Ann Sieg, and her book The Renegade Network Marketer, shows you some great options for your MLM business.

On the Lookout
Be on the lookout for new options, better trainings you can offer your leads. You'll find you need to change books occasionally, and keep your recruiting program fresh. If you update every year or so, update your marketing, your PPC campaign, you can avoid becoming stale yourself. And find some mlm success along the way.
