Your Friends Don't Have To Buy From Your MLM Business

When you are in to network marketing if you have previously had any network marketing experience you might have been trained to sell to your close circle. Perhaps the first batch of training by itself places emphasis on selling to your close circle. People whom you essentially know are your close circle and they are mostly your friends, neighbors, colleagues, relatives!

The number one mistake that most network marketers do is to expect all their friends to get the products they sell. Friendship is pretty much different from business. Abusing the advantages of friendship for business is wrong! Similarly, abusing the advantages of business for friendship is also wrong!

There are a lot of enthusiastic MLM marketers who tend to sell a lot to friends. Selling to friends is not something bad, however, if you think you will be able to sell only to your friends and close circle, then you are surely not going to succeed in your MLM business.

The real sales element is to be able to identify people who can be either strangers or friends, who will really need the product, and sell it to them. Regardless of whether you know the person you are trying to sell the product or not, you must be able to know the right time to cut into the person's time and sell the product to him/her.

Anyone who thinks that they can sell the product only to people whom they are familiar with is suffering from "selling phobia". They are secretly trying to abuse friendship. If they were able to sell to a stranger and also the friend, then it is ok. However, if they are only selling to their friends, there is a serious problem with your marketing methods, which we can call as "stranger-phobia" which should not be there for any salesman.

A good salesman is one who will have the skill set to identify the right prospect and talk to them right away. "Talk to them right away" does not mean talk to them about the product. They will start with a topic that is not related to sales, then understand the psychology of the stranger they are dealing with and then eventually they identify the right minute to talk about the product and eventually make a sales conversion.

Just like there is "a time for day" and "a time for night", there is a right time for beginning your talk about sales either to your friend or the stranger. Understand how that has to be done and proceed accordingly.

However, there are going to be some of your friends who are totally not interested in the kind of product you are selling and/or they might dislike MLMs; to such friends, please, please, please, do not talk about your product regardless of how good it is. With such people try to maintain and honor the friendship, they will eventually come to you.

The next set of friends are those who are midway between liking and not liking MLMs and your related products, find the right time to talk to them about your product and then deal with them.

The third kind of friends are those who will ring you up if a new product has arrived. They are very interested and will seek you out or not be bothered if you continue following up with them.. Keep them as your priority list and talk to them immediately when a new product arrives, or their current order is running out.

These are just some pointers to keep in mind when dealing with close friends and relatives. Not everyone may be as enthusiastic about your business and products as you are. But that's ok, not everyone has to be, just find the ones that are receptive to it, feel them out and proceed carefully. This way you are sure to keep your friendships and make your MLM business prosper at the same time !
