Pro Golf Careers: Learning About The Opportunities

Golf enthusiasts often plan their vacations around professional tournaments or playing with friends at exotic locales. An international sport, courses are often surrounded by plush hotels and beautiful scenery. Golf has grown from a hobby sport to an international business market. As the popularity of the sport expands so does the opportunities in pro golf careers. So if you love golfing and the industry, but have not mastered the pro swing, don't despair. Consider some professional options that can keep you in the industry. First think about the many job options available, and consider what skill sets you may need to attain in order to qualify for the positions.

The golf industry has many businesses that work in affiliation with them. From equipment manufactures' to teaching centers and resort hotels, the vocations are wide and limitless. Many retirement communities now have courses. Each location requires a management team for complex operations. The management team hires and directs the course employees from the merchandising shop staff to the groundskeepers. The shop staff assists customers with registration, renting of equipment, and often sells refreshments. The groundskeepers maintain the grounds and landscape. The management team aims to make sure the patrons have an enjoyable experience, which promotes repeat customers.

Another important aspect in the industry is marketing and promotions. You can have a beautiful well maintained greenway but if no one knows it's there your business will not do well. One way to ensure clientele will show up to enjoy your course is to have sponsored tournaments. Every sports enthusiast loves the spirit of competition. Tournament coordinators may work with associations, such as the PGA, to plan and promote tournaments. The tournaments promote the courses, and offer a great way for enthusiasts of different levels to compete.

The marketing and promotion team also create new programs to attract local and new business. Some locations run special promotions during off peak times to keep the customer flow steady. Many private courses have events where they open up to the public to increase business. Marketing and promotion team members may also work with manufactures' of equipment and apparel to increase visibility and sales. On site manufacturing of clubs and equipment might be an expansion idea at larger clubs. Being apart of a new brand could be an exciting career move for anyone.

Another important career is managing the complex operations. For larger facilities, management teams oversee the operations. Professional facilities have a wide variety of management positions. Mangers oversee specific aspects of the complex operations. Tournament director's plan and manage both professional and non professional tournaments. Some larger locations run schools to help their cliental improve their game. These school managers assist teachers and clients with learning techniques. Retail managers oversee the product purchase and placement in the shops, and run the shops daily operations. Merchandise managers can work directly with vendors to help promote their product in the retail store.

A successful complex also has a large support staff. The support staff jobs include clerical and administrations positions. Starters and rangers assist in maintaining their start and tee times, and travel the course to give status reports and alert course managers to any emergencies. Marketing teams promote upcoming professional and non professional tournaments and assist in membership sales.

So if you love the game, and want to look into the many career options the industry offers, start by looking at all the industries associated with the game. The industry continues to expand globally. With the expansion of the industry come many different pro golf careers. Many are able to take advantage, and now is as good a time as any.
