What is New in Health and Beauty Careers?
People will never stop getting sick. People will also not ever tire of looking better. For these reasons, a career in health care or cosmetology may be a fantastic choice if you are looking for something new.
While I believe it is safe to say that no industry has been entirely immune to the effects of the recent financial crisis that our nation and the world have been consumed by over the last year or so, the medical and beauty fields have still seemed to experience relatively steady growth in recent months. The demand for nurses alone has led to waiting lists as long as a year to gain entrance to many of the countrys top nursing schools. Nurses are also earning top dollar these days. According to the United States Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average salary for a registered nurse in 2007 was over $62,000.
According to these same reports, other high paying health care occupations include physician assistants, occupational therapists, radiation therapists, respiratory therapists, and diagnostic medical sonographers. While retaining may be required for a new field in healthcare, that investment of time and finances may well be worth it. Ask yourself where you are going to be with your career in 5 years. With a new job in the medical field, you could be well on your way to a better paying position in that time.
The beauty business is not dissimilar. While off-hand one may assume that a cosmetology or aesthetic professional may not demand the same earnings potential, new opportunities in this industry may have leveled the playing field to some degree. Cosmetic enhancement and anti-aging services, whether hair dressing or skin care, have steadily increased in demand over the last decade. One primary reason for this is the evolution of the baby boomer generation. As this demographic moves into its fifties and ultimately towards sixty years old, the battle rages on to live and look like they did when they were younger. No one likes getting old, and those with the financial means to put up a fight against the hands of time are doing so.
Recent advents in technology have given cosmetology professionals more tools to work with in an effort to meet their clients demands. Lasers and other energy based devices have led the way. Cosmetology and aesthetic specialists can now reduce cellulite, tighten lax skin, reduce or eliminate wrinkles, and take away sun damage and age spots. All of these services can now be performed without anesthesia, intolerable sensation, or recovery time. These days your local medical spa can offer you a lunch time procedure in less than an hour that can take away years of aging in your appearance.
If you are looking for a new opportunity or if you have ever considered a career change, perhaps health care and cosmetology might be worth a second look. The chance to work with advancing technologies in a growing field where you have the ability to help people each and every day may be incredibly rewarding. It certainly is not a bad thing either to obtain specialized skills such as these that may ultimately lead to a long term lucrative occupation as well.
