i have a 3 year old dark cornish rooster, and he has recently developed a few very swollen spots on his wattles and comb, and both his eyelids have swollen up so much that he appears to have marbles under them. does anyone know what i can do about it short of putting him down. he eats as well as drinks, but he can't see to do either very well. his droppings are normal, not watery. he is lively and objects to examination. other than the swelling he seems fine. no resperatory sounds, no discharge, good feather condition, good leg and skin color. i am stumped here.....

we have recently gotten some hens, we noticed one sitting in the corner, didn't eat... appeared to be straining and occasionally making noises like she was in pain. we watched her closely for a couple of hours thinking she may have been laying an egg... but she continues with this activity. Any suggestions, or is this normal for egg laying?

have a 4 year old hen that started acting sickly about a week ago. I would find her off be herself and she seemed slower than usual. I seperated her from the others. I noticed she stopped getting up on her nest box to sleep and would stay on the ground. 2 days ago she became crippled. She can't walk at all. Her legs are brought up under her body. She stopped eating and drinking. She also had a lesion by her rump as well as a bean size growth by her anus that I couldnt remove as it appears to be under the skin. Not sure if that is anything. I'm giving her an antibiotic, ivermectin, nutri- drench. She will drink some when the bowl is put to her. She ate alittle bit last night but seems to be lethargic and stiff this morning. I dont beleive its Mariks desease. Any suggestions?

Hi, I've just become aware of one of my chickens displaying similar symptoms to Lu Ann's. She is about 4 years old. She is heavy on the legs and it is a laboured walk. She is very unsteady on her feet and doesn't perch at night but remains on the lower level. Her plumage seems to be all 'fluffed out' and there may be some impairment of vision. Hopefully somebody out there has some suggestions.
