GBC Catena 65 Professional Roll Laminator Product Review
Overview:
The GBC Catena 65 Professional Roll Laminator is a full-featured 25" roll laminator designed for professional production environments. These environments may include copy shops, printers and in-plant shops for medium or large-sized companies. The GBC Catena 65 takes laminating to the next level, because it allows for a variety of functions, including cold laminating, mounting, encapsulating and more. With all of these options, it is an extremely versatile choice for laminating a variety of materials and should be carefully considered for your needs.
Features:
The Catena 65 offers mounting capabilities for use with 3/16" mounting boards. The materials that the Catena 65 includes sintra, gator board, generic foam core, just to name a few.
In addition to a variety of sizes, and thicknesses, this professional roll laminator can be used with both hot mount adhesive and pretreated boards, making its versatility among the best in the business. With this kind of versatility and a cost-effective price structure, the Catena 65 is popular for a reason.
The machine can be used with a wide assortment of hot laminating films including 1.5mil, 1.7mil, 3mil, 5mil, and 10mil thicknesses and the adjustable speed and temperature settings give you full ability to adjust for varying material thickness, film types and other factors.
The Catena 65 has comes standard with 1" integrated core adaptors. The 1" size core adaptor, however, may not meet all of your needs. If you are working with specialty films not available on a 1" core there are also 2.25" core adaptors available for your special project.
Limitations:
The Catena 65 is a great, all-purpose laminator, but it does have a few limitations. The machine cannot accept laminating film on a 3" core. This could really limit the ability to use some popular specialty films that only come on 3" cores. This should be taken into consideration when a decision is made.
This type of roll-laminator can also be more difficult to configure and master than a typical, more basic machine. Because the Catena 65 can do so many things, it can be a little more complicated and may take a little bit of work to master. It, like all roll laminators, can also be a bit challenging to load, but becomes easier with practice.
If you work with wide format posters or other wide items, the Catena 65 is probably not the right laminator for you. The laminating machine can only handle documents that are up to 25 inches wide, anything wider than that cannot be put through the Catena 65, which, depending on your needs, can be severely limiting.
Construction:
The Catena 65 is constructed with plastic sides and a metal feed tray and components. The machine generally does not require much service. You should, however, be careful of the rollers and shouldn't attempt cleaning them with sharp objects or to laminate items with glitter, 3D objects or other materials that can damage the rollers.
When loading the Catena 65 roll laminator, it is very important to load the machine carefully. If the machine is not loaded properly, you run the risk loading the laminator backwards. If this happens, it will cause the film to wrap around the rollers, resulting in a very difficult an messy situation. It is something to be kept in mind whenever you use your Catena 65 laminator.
Recommendation:
The GBC Catena 65 is perfect for a printing shop, a copy shop or in-plant print shop, among other small to medium sized businesses that have the need for lamination. Any company looking for a variety of lamination capabilities would so well with the Catena 65 and it is highly recommended for them.
The machine has great features at an excellent price point. The GBC Catena 65 also includes a 90-day of GBC on-site warranty service.
If you look very hard, you may be able to find a faster, more versatile laminator, but not for the price that the Catena 65 is offered. So if value and quality are important to you, get the GBC Catena and get going with your laminating projects now!
