The Flueless Fire That Does Not Require A Gas Supply

The term Flueless Fire used to mean Flueless Gas Fire. Although they do not require a chimney (or flue) they DO require a supply of gas from the gas mains. And to get gas from the mains to your fire you will require the services of a gas engineer, who will need to run a pipe to the fire & make sure it is safe on a regular basis.

So, the location of a flueless fire is fixed, and you will need a registered, accredited engineer to install it or move it, it is not something you will be able to do-it-yourself.

These are by far the most popular technology at the moment. They are cost effective to buy, and if someone doesnt want too much heat and is replacing an existing gas fire they certainly do the trick.

Leading brands include CVO, Burley, Firewall & Smeg. Designs can be traditional or contemporary, hung on the wall, put on the floor by a wall, or installed existing fireplaces.

Over the last year or two though, an exciting new breed of flueless fires has emerged, from EcoSmart. Not only flueless, these fires are gas-less, electricity-less & engineer-less. If you can open a box and pour some liquid into a hole you can have a new open fire.

Sound too good to be true? It isnt. This is cutting edge, award winning technology, invented in Australia where very few houses have a mains gas supply or central heating. Since the EcoSmart flueless fires have also taken off in France where gas mains are also not the norm, and have become firmly established as the flueless fire of choice.

Even where there is an existing real fireplace, these are much cleaner than a real fire, with no soot, smell or smoke, which in these environmentally conscious days is becoming increasingly important.

Much easier to use (no chopping wood required!) and even warmer than all but the largest open fire as all of the heat goes into the room and not up the chimney.
Not only are these clean, they actually provide significant heat, at least as much as a real fire, and it is the same type of heat, a cosy heart that spreads throughout the room and feels completely different to gas central heating or a gas fire.

The flame is adjustable, and they provide so much heat you are unlikely to want the fire on full for long.
These new flueless fires use bio ethanol from a renewable source (sugar beet).

Bio ethanol is a clear, alcohol based liquid very similar to methylated spirits. If spilt on the floor or on clothing it wont leave marks as it has no oil content. Best of all it burns very, very cleanly with only the faintest of smell at the beginning, and absolutely NO soot or mess.

It comes in plastic bottles which are delivered to your home and is ultra easy to use. The EcoSmart fire does not have to be cleaned after each use, the stainless steel surround can be cleaned to maintain a contemporary look, but the fire doesnt require cleaning.

And perhaps the most important attribute is the design flexibility. Based around a central burner unit the EcoSmart burner can be installed virtually anywhere. Designed to sit on a flat surface, as long as there is a non flammable surround eg granite it really doesnt matter where you put the fire.

The next step up from the burner is a firebox. Containing a burner, this is a stainless steel surround designed to fit into a hole in a wall, giving the look of a very contemporary fireplace. The hole can be placed anywhere, in any wall and whilst you might need a builder you certainly wont need an engineer.

Then there is the grate. This is a burner in a black steel surround, designed to look like a grate in an open fire. So if you have a fireplace and like the idea of something more traditional that you can just pop in an existing fireplace this is for you.
Finally, the free standing fires.

Essentially a firebox in a smart surround, these fires are designed to be moved around like any other piece of furniture. They dont need to be put against a wall, you can simply put one in the middle of the room and move it if you get bored. There is no assembly or installation required simply open the box and go.

This is the future of flueless fires. Advanced, patented technology providing all of the advantages of an open fire with no of the disadvantages.

Hi Tina,

Great bit of PR for your Company. If you are going to compare Gas and Gel fires apart from all the flowery stuff you should also include some important technical information. At least your customers can then make an informed decision.

You say "This is the future of flueless fires. Advanced, patented technology providing all of the advantages of an open fire with no of the disadvantages" - I can think of quite a few.

I especially like the "Do it Yourself" line - what about combustable materials, soft furnishings, hearths, guards etc? No mention of this very important safety information.

I would have included:

The Approval Status? Gas fires are tested to strict CE regulations - What regulations are these gel fires tested to?

The Running Costs? A 2.7Kw Gas Fire will cost about 8p/hour to heat a room - a gel fire of the same heat output will cost up to 20x more to give the same heat. I would say thats an important factor for customers who are wanting to save cost?

The Safety Features? Gas fires have safety devices to shut them down. What do these Gel Fires have? What about storing gel in your home? What happens if it is spilt?

The Practicality? Gas fires are easy to operate - switch on/off etc, with a gel fire you have to manually fill and light the tray.

What about all the moisture given off by the gel? Let us know what tests you have done, what ventilation is required in the room and if dampness will be a concern?
