Shopping For Personalized Gift For A Baby

The other day I found out that a life long friend of mine and his wife were getting ready to add their first child to their family.

I can not tell you how happy this made me, simply because my friend and his wife had been married for quite a while and had been trying desperately to have a child, but so far their attempts had been unfruitful. Here they were madly in love and expecting their first child after years of trying. My friend informed me they would be having a baby shower for his wife and new baby soon, and that I should be getting my invitation soon.

My friend was the kind of person who would help out anyone that was in need and this announcement just thrilled me to the core. Now my brain was working over time trying to decide what they of gift I would purchase for their new arrival. Later that week, I received a beautiful baby shower invitation and their special day was only two weeks away.

My dear friend had explained that I did not have to get them any thing, but he knew I would. This was just another occasion showing me and my friend that we were not getting any younger. What would I get my friend and his wife? Of course, the unique gift that I wanted was some where out there. It would need to be some thing to show my joy for my friend and his wife without coming across as overly sentimental or embarrassing him with outrageously expensive luxuries.

However, this some thing perfect was not going to fall into my lap and I knew it in the same way that I knew my knowledge of baby gifts amounted to less than zip. Now, the search was on and I felt heavy even before it started. Instantly, I began looking at the big box stores such as Baby R Us and Toys R Us, which were situated around my local mall.

The assortment of gifts were depressingly similar with lots of them having big packaging with only small toys inside. Of course, most of the stores offered gift giving advice in the form of circulars for their latest products on sale, which some of these products looked almost impossible to be able to gift wrap despite their obvious purpose.

An on-line search guide revealed some useful ideas, like narrowing a search with words like to unique, creative, and personalized. These terms bumped me into a better class of websites, which featured classier items that looked durable. I browsed through a bunch, but I finally settled on a personalized baseball bat.

My friend and I had played ball together for years on the weekend when we could get together a pickup game, which seemed like a great way to communicate old memories to him and his new arrival. Also, I thought I might be the kindly uncle, encouraging the baby towards sports.

However, another idea that came as a close runner up was a helicopter bank, which was also personalized and that could go into the baby's nursery. I imagined it could be the baby's first toy, and I could at least have given him some thing solid and durable, the kind of thing that lasts well into their childhood. I wanted some thing more personal than supplies, and while I knew some of his wife's friends were bringing such things as elaborate diaper cakes and dainty bath and bedtime sets, but I wanted some thing more masculine.

I thought that a bat would work, because to a greater or lesser extent most men in their secret hearts hope their child is a great athlete. It was an afterglow of our own childhood ambitions, but still I was bring a baseball bat to a baby shower. I knew my friend would appreciate it and perhaps that some day the baby would get a laugh out of it as well.
