Saving Money Through Clever Garden Irrigation

They say necessity is the mother of invention; the need to speak to a person over long distances led to the invention of the telephone and the invention of the car enabled us to travel great distances in a short space of time. But necessity can also be looked at in other ways. Whereas most inventions create something that didn't exist before there are some inventions that improve something that was there already.

Often this process is carried out to improve design and make things more user-friendly but it can also be carried out with improved performance in mind, which makes economic sense. Garden equipment, and in particular garden irrigation equipment have changed out of necessity, considerably, in recent years because of environmental and economic reasons.

Garden irrigation is one of a growing number of areas that has had to take into account environmental changes; the need to use as little water as possible and economic considerations; water is becoming a precious commodity and so the price that water companies can charge has seen a huge increase in recent years. As a result the design of garden irrigation equipment has become better and more sophisticated.

A family's water bill is a significant part of their annual budget so it's no wonder that people are becoming more aware of how much they use. Flushing the toilet, running a bath and washing a car have all become things that are given more thought than maybe they once were. Watering the garden has also become an area that needs to be approached with more care ever and as a consequence there are more garden irrigation products on the garden centre shelves than ever before.

Battery operated water timers - Standing in the garden for an hour holding a length of hose is a thing of the past. It's not only a waste of precious time, it's not what can be called environmentally friendly either; it's a waste of precious water. Garden irrigation has taken on board developments in technology and now you can set up a system that comes on and goes off at set times.

This type of garden irrigation system, on a timer, can be particularly useful as it enables you to water your garden at the optimum time; this isn't always when it's convenient. Watering your garden in the early morning or evening when it's cooler reduces the amount of water that is lost through evaporation and so your garden is able to absorb more of it.

Underground irrigation system - Some people just can't stand having clutter around their garden, this includes lengths of garden hose and all the attachments that come with it. For those people there is a practical garden irrigation system that is almost invisible.

Underground garden irrigation systems are becoming more popular as they save space and are very easy to operate. After the initial installation, operation is as easy as turning on a tap. Underground garden irrigation also gives the garden owner the opportunity to target certain areas that might need more watering than others, making it eco friendly and saving on the amount of water used.

Sprinklers and sprayers - Using a simple length of hose is only a short step from throwing a bucket of water on your lawn. It's a waste of a precious resource. Incorporating sprinklers and sprayers into your garden irrigation system can significantly improve the way you water your garden and the results you get from it. With the ability to connect these sprinklers and sprayers to timers and underground systems isn't it about time you had a state of the art garden irrigation system on your property.
