What To Buy Your Mother-In-Law This Christmas
Probably one of the most difficult people to shop for on your holiday list is your mother-in-law. This is the woman who nurtured her son with such wisdom and compassion that he became the loving husband you cherish today. This is the woman who is the doting grandmother of your beloved children. This is the woman who at times drives you crazy and sometimes makes you stress out over how to raise your children. Regardless of the latter, you owe her a debt of gratitude for the family you have today and what better time to show your appreciation than at Christmas time since it is the time of giving.
So, what do you buy this woman who you owe so much to and perhaps know so little about? How about scented candles? But, what if she has allergies? Do you know which scents make her smile and which make her sneeze? Plus, a gift of candles won't adequately reflect how much she means to you and your family. I would steer away from candles.
Is clothing a good choice? Imagine the embarrassment on Christmas when you watch her open her gift and hold it up only to see it is two sizes too small. Or worse, four sizes too large! You could end up either humiliating your mother-in-law because she has to acknowledge she is fatter than you think she is, or you are going to really make her angry by implying she is much larger than she really is. Clothing is a risky gift that should be avoided unless you already know from your regular shopping excursions exactly what size she is.
Maybe gift cards are a good idea. Eek! In our current financial crisis one never knows which business is going to be next to file for bankruptcy. What a waste it would be to spend a large sum of money on a gift that can't be redeemed. Bankruptcy law considers gift card holders to be debt holders and negates the value of all cards issued prior to a company declaring bankruptcy. Try convincing your mother-in-law that the card really did have money on it before the bankruptcy. This could become uncomfortable.
So, the next logical gift idea is jewelry, but what type? Diamonds are a girl's best friend, but are more the type of gift that should come from a husband, not a daughter-in-law. Costume jewelry? Nothing yells cheap gift louder than costume jewelry!
Still jewelry is your best option, but not just any jewelry. For high quality pieces that are always made of the finest silver (not coated nickel or gold-plated junk), check out Peruvian silver jewelry. Peruvian artisans make high quality silver jewelry at prices most women can afford for their mothers-in-law at Christmas. A Google search for Peruvian silver jewelry will yield many results with imaginative designs that will complement any woman. Be careful to choose a site that guarantees its products and will allow your mother-in-law to exchange her gift if she prefers a different design. Some of the handcrafted earrings start out as low as $28 per pair.
Whatever you decide to give your mother-in-law give it with love for all she means to you, with respect for all that she's done for you, and with a heartfelt wish of a Merry Christmas!
