A Really Fun And Unique Party Favor For Kids Parties

Throwing a kids party can be fun, but keeping the kids active and under control at the children's party can sometimes be difficult. Giving them something to do will make the time go by faster, be fun for everyone and will provide each child with something unique to take home with them when they leave the party.
You may ask a couple of the parents to stay during the party and help with this.

Everyone Can Participate at Your Kids Parties!

You'll need to do some party preparation in advance. Collect medium sized boxes from packaged dinners like Hamburger Helper or Cereal Boxes can work. When you open them to use them, make sure you open the end carefully so that it can be re-closed. You need one box for each child who will be attending the party. Using some nice colored construction paper, wrap each empty box (make sure the ends are closed) completely. Using a sharp knife cut a three-sided flap into one side of the box, leaving the uncut fourth side as the fold of the flap. Tape or glue the paper over the flap so that it doesn't flop. On the inside of the flap, tape or glue a new piece of paper. It can be a different color if you like.

You should have one box for each child. Depending on the time you have, you might want to do this before the party. Now comes the fun stuff, stickers, crayons, markers and anything else that the child might use to decorate the box. Have the kids decorate their boxes to give them a personal touch. You can even use glitter, macaroni and anything else fun, but be sure to supervise children with cutting and glue.

Drawing Keeps Kids Busy During Kids Parties

Encourage the children to draw a picture on the inside of the flap. A picture of a house would be neat or you can print out coloring book pages of houses for them to color or use magazine pictures or you can even incorporate pictures of the kids and their families (have them bring a picture that can be used in advance).

For older kids who don't want to color or use stickers, you can use a stack of old magazines and have them cut out pictures and items from the magazines to make fun collages on the inside of the lid and outer sides of the boxes.

Once the boxes are all decorated, an adult should assist the child and line the inside of the box with aluminum foil. When that is complete then fill the box about three quarters of the way to the top with potting soil.

Planting Time Makes a Super Kids Party Favor

Have the children plant the grass seed in the soil (make sure an adult helps them so it will grow). You can even use flowers if you like. Use any type of grass seed you like. But make sure you buy a little bit of "Rye" and mix it in with the other seed. The rye will come up quickly to give the children some quick results. When the other seed begins to sprout they will choke out the rye for a lush lawn effect.Water the soil lightly and send the plant boxes home with the children. It's something fun they can watch grow daily and long after the party.

Send a small instruction paper with the kids explaining about where to put the box so it will grow, watering and trimming the lawn with scissors. You can even send a pair of children's plastic scissors along with them as a party favor if you want. The grass will begin to come in fairly quickly, so the kids will get almost immediate results. Once grown, it will look like the front yard of a house if you've used pictures of people and houses or other buildings to decorate the box flap.

Parents Can Benefit From the Kids Party.

If you have a bare spot in your yard that you can't get grass to grow, rough up the bare spot to loosen the dirt a little. Remove the grass from the box and place it in the bare spot in your yard. The party favor makes for a perfect patch of sod in your yard. Make sure you water the grass daily for about a week.

This is a fun project that kids of all ages can participate in. It can be fun for the parents too and ends up being very educational.
