Easy Tips To Wash And Groom Toddler Hair
Almost every toddler goes through bouts of stiff resistance when it comes to washing and brushing of their hair. There could be several reasons for that. You find the reasons by experimenting with different methods until you find the right one. If the child does not like water being poured on the head while using a shampoo, try wetting and rinsing the hair with a wet washcloth. Sometimes, they protests because they are scared of the water or don't like the position they have to be in. Hold the securely and talk to them soothingly if they afraid of the water. Also, try different positions of placing him/her in the water.
Some toddlers like the visors that slip over their heads to keep water out of their faces. Another idea is to give them a dry hand towel or washcloth to hold over their faces as you pour water so that it wont get into their eyes. While shampooing, use a shield that fits on his head like a cap or a swimming goggle to prevent water running into the eyes. They can put their head under the water for rinsing and still open their eyes.
Distraction is a good tactic with toddlers. The picture of a favorite cartoon character on the wall, putting on music with songs he likes and can join, and playing body games such as asking to point out his ear or tummy are interesting distractions. Also, having an occasional bath or shampooing with the kid and showing her what to do is also very encouraging. Also, keep in mind that hair washing can be limited to once or twice a day.
You dont have to wash the kids hair every time you give her a bath.
Now comes the next difficult part of brushing the hair and properly grooming it. Apart from employing some of the above diversion tactics or watching a special program on the TV, try cajoling him/her to have a style that looks like his/her dad or mum. Or how it will make other kids admire them. It the hair is hard to brush, try applying baby hair oil. It will also impart a healthy sheen to the hair. Using a proper conditioning spray will also help to soften the hair.
Also, use a comb that moves comfortable through your kids hair. Some bristles are so hard and packed together that it is not only hard on the scalp but also pulls the hair. Such combs make brushing uncomfortable and painful, especially if the kid has curly hair. Experiment with different combs until you come across a suitable one, preferably with softer bristles. You can also use a comfortable gel to settle the hair and maintain it the way you combed it for a longer period. Proper hair cut will make it easier for you to keep the kids hair well groomed and neat with even combing.
Before you try to decorate your daughters hair with pretty girlie gadgets, think whether it is necessary. Putting on these things could be painful, and so many moms think it is better to leave the hair in a natural manner, which also looks pretty if well maintained and groomed.
However, if you really want to put something in her hair, put it in yours first and show her. And, if you want to keep a hat, barrette or one of those baby garters on their heads with out they pulling it off, try to distract them as you put it on, until they forget about such a thing on their head.
