Safety Tips For Toddler Bath
Before taking your toddler to the bath, always prepare the bath making sure that everything is ready and close at hand. It will help you avoid any distractions that may prompt you leave the kid in the bathtub while you go out looking for the missing item. Leaving the kid alone in the bathroom even for a moment could be dangerous but also could be fatal as well. The kid could be scalded or drowned due to your momentary absence. Hence, if you have forgotten to bring an item needed for the bath, you should take the kid with you when you go to get it. The same rule is applicable when you have to answer the phone or attend to those who ring the door bell.
It is better to set the water heater to a low 120 degrees. The body temperature of the toddlers is the right degree and can cause scalding if the water is too hot for them. Check the sink or the tub making sure it is clean and empty, fill it with warm water. Check it with your elbow be ensure that the water is comfortably warm and not too hot or cold..

If the toddler has any wounds or sores on the body, then it is better not to use the bathtub. Use a sponge bath in such cases avoiding the wounds and immediately drying the affected parts. You may only bath your toddler in the tub if all of the wounds are healed and do not show any signs of distress or infection.
Always keep the bathroom clean, warm and with enough light while giving the bath.The kid may catch a cold or some other infection if the place is dirty or drafty. While in the bathroom or near water, the child should not be left alone and should be always within your eyesight. After bath, make sure that you properly dry all the parts of the body with a dry, clean and soft towel. The head, behind the ears, neck, and between the toes and the fingers should be properly wiped and dried of any moisture.
Also, avoid applying soap or any cream that can cause allergies and rashes. Use only gentle and skin friendly items recommended by your doctor or properly tested on the kid before applying them allover suddenly. While cleaning the ears and eyes, use soft cotton balls or cotton pads.
Always pay attention to keep the head straight and above the water to avoid water getting into the ears or nose during the bath. It is unnecessary to use soap or shampoo every day unless it is necessary or the kid is too dirty. Using soap can be limited to alternate days and shampooing to once a week. While using soaps and shampoos make sure that the foam does not get into their eyes, nose and mouth.
Another important point to remember while giving a toddler bath is to remove protruding rings and bracelets from your fingers and arms. These can hurt a toddler or entangle in her hair while you run your hand along her body, especially if she is struggling or moving while having the bath. It is also important that you yourself are clean, especially your hands and arms, while giving the bath.
Also, take care to immediately dress the kid in warm clothes, if it is cold, or suitable clothes in summer, after a giving a bath. Make sure that these are clean and dry. Combing the hair with a soft comb immediately after drying the hair will keep it smooth and tidy. .
With these simple precautions, bath time can be enjoyable and very safe as well.
