Get Organized and Get Saving Money with Coupons

Are the coupons keeping you from saving money? Are you unorganized? Then you need to find a system of coupon organization that will be easy to start and maintain. There are several systems out there, but you need to find the one system of coupon organization that will work for you. Other people are saving thousands of dollars with food coupons, and you should be too!

First, you need a staging area for clipping your coupons. Where do you clip coupons from the paper? You need one place in your home. I use the kitchen table. Once you designate a location, then you need to move the coupons to one place for storage until their usefulness arises. My coupons are stores on one shelf in my son's bedroom. Nothing else goes on that shelf except my coupons. Tell each member of your family this place if off limits.

Second, you need an organizational system. Do you want to keep your coupons in a binder? If so any three ring binder with baseball card holder sheets will keep your coupons. This is a good system because you can see each coupon through the clear protective liners. You can also easily see the expiration dates. Organize each section according to the grocery store aisles for easy retrieval. However, it does require you to file the coupons weekly, and purge unused coupons monthly. If the filing does not fit your needs, you may need a different organizational strategy.

You can use a simple pencil holder system. The zipper pencil cases also fit inside any three ring binders. With this system, you separate the coupons according to category, and put all coupons inside that case. You will still use the grocery store aisles as your categories. Produce, Meats, Cereal, etc. This is quick for filing. To pull coupons for use, you will need to thumb through the pouch before you can redeem the coupon. I usually check my store sales, and then pull coupons I want to use. I find it beats filing every coupon as in the binder system. But with this system, you have 10-12 major categories, and every coupon is not easily read. This is a good system for a busy person without a lot of filing time.

The coupon wallet is another organizational system. Buy an easy to use index card sized expandable file. Mark stores where you plan to shop. If you shop at grocery store A, B and C, then each should have a section. Drugstores would have a section as well. When you clip, put the coupons in the section where you plan to use the coupon. For example, if you have bacon coupons, and you want to use them at store b, file the coupon there. It will be ready when you go to the store.

Any of these systems will keep you organized and help you to save money. The key is matching the system to the way you shop. You may find that a mix of two of these systems will help you more. I use both the pencil cases, and the coupon wallet to stay organized. You will maximize your savings once you select a system and stick to it. Saving $100 per month is easy when you allow yourself the tools.
