Five Tools to Bring Financial Abundance Into Your LIfe

Abundance: We don't hear this word much these days. With all the reported doom and gloom, it can be difficult to feel good about anything.

We hear the news every day: companies closing their doors, job layoffs and economic recession. The closing of Mervyn's hit me particularly hard. It has been around as long as I have. Passing by that empty building is a depressing sight.

In this article, I want to give you five simple techniques that will help you feel abundant - even during these challenging times.

I'm an avid runner. I've been running most of my adult life. I've run lots of races and logged in many weekly miles.

I've also paid the price with injuries along the way -- twisting both ankles, pains here and there. My last injury kept me off the roads for almost a year.

I recently started running again. I started slowly, committed to keeping my distance down to three miles a couple of days a week. That worked well, so I increased my distance to three and a half miles, then four miles... then, to my disappointment, I developed leg pain, which kept me from running for a couple of days.

Fortunately, I also swim, so I headed off to the health club. I shared with another club member my frustration with suffering another injury. She was not only sympathetic, but she gave me some words of advice. "Oh, you're running too much," she said, and offered an alternate program: cut back on my running and do more swimming and walking.

She gently pointed out that I'm older and can no longer run like that because my body can't take it (reality - I'm almost 60!). So, I'm taking her advice and changing my ways. Hopefully I'll prevent any more injuries while continuing to do what I love.

This parallels our current financial challenges. First look at what's no longer working for you. Then take action to do it differently.

Your life can and will prosper if you're optimistic and open to change. We can come out of this situation with victory if we pay attention and change patterns that no longer support us emotionally or financially.

I like the saying: When you fall down, pick something up. We have an opportunity to grow from our experiences. Pick up these five tools to bring abundance into your life:

1. Write a gratitude list every day: List at least five things you're grateful for. You may have heard this before - it works! It will turn around your thinking.

2. Stay in reality: No matter how uncomfortable it may be, reality is healthier than denial. The truth will set you free. This especially applies to your finances.

3. Stay in today: Do the best you can today. Let go of the rest.

4. Ask for help: By speaking to my buddy at the health club, I received help. Talk about it. Get help. It can save your financial life.

5. Take action: Anytime you do something positive, whether you're making a difficult call, starting an exercise program or even balancing your checkbook, you'll feel better. Action moves us closer to our goals.

Start this week. Make a commitment to one of these tools so that abundance becomes a part of your life - even when the media is shouting the opposite.
