1. Modify your diet, this means replacing the carbohydrates that you use into healthy carbohydrates. Healthy carbs as experts call it are those that are under the complex carbohydrates category, like whole wheat breads, oatmeal, brown rice, corn, foods that are rich in fiber are under this category. Fiber is very important when trying to lose weight, this will not make you instantly hungry and cleanse your digestive system of unwanted toxins, bad cholesterol, and they are great in cleaning the colon and large intestines.
2. Consume five servings of fruits in a day. This will give you all the vitamins and nutrients that your body needs. What's more, fruits are packed with anti-oxidants that boost your body's immune system, fight off disease causing cells or free radicals that we get from our environment or the food we eat. Anti-oxidants slows down oxidative damages to our body. They also act as scavengers and clear our body of toxic waste. In fact, studies have shown that by consuming five servings of fruit and vegetable a day can prevent stroke.
3. Learn what are the proper portion size, 1 serving of pasta or rice is equivalent to 1/2 cup of pasta or rice, 1 serving of meat is = to 1 small match box size of lean meat. In today's society where every meal are, super-sized learning the right serving of food is important to lose weight.
4. Eat in small amounts but frequently at least 5 times a day in small amounts, do not skip a meal especially breakfast, and drink lots of water. Breakfast is the most important meal in a day; this will fuel your body from work. Also eating in small portion, this will help you to balance your caloric intake and regulate your sugar level throughout the day. This will eliminate food cravings especially from junk foods and sweets. However, to avoid feeling being restricted in your food intake, allow you to indulge once in awhile, but keep in mind of the portion sizes and frequency of this indulgence.
5. Get moving and exercise. 30 minutes - 1-hour aerobic exercise a day is needed to become healthy and weight training twice a week will help to tone your muscles. Exercise is the other half of dieting; one cannot work without the other. Proper exercise especially those that utilize the big muscles in the body will help burn more fats. Exercises that you can do are biking, swimming, brisk walking, and jogging, although jogging is not good if you are on the heavy side as this may damage your joints. It is better to stick to non-impact exercises such as swimming and water aerobics.
Losing weight naturally need not be a burden or punishment, as long as you know the benefits that you can get from having a healthy body. This requires your dedication and motivation to achieve your ideal weight. All you need are healthy choices and be mindful of what you eat and stay active all the time.
