How To Shock Yourself Into Losing Body Fat

Don't worry this isn't going to be a sales plug for one of those magic electro-stimulating vibration belts which is apparently like doing 100 crunches a day

This article is about the importance of keeping records / diaries / journals.

Call them what you like.

If you want to get serious about permanently losing body fat and creating a lean, impressive body, whether male or female, you must learn to keep journals.

I know people who keep journals of sleep patterns, how they feel each day, morning heart rates and a variety of other lifestyle elements.

However, whilst these undoubtedly make training and managing the complex unit that is the human body, there are really only two types of journals you need to focus on for now.

Training journals and nutrition journals.

The chances are you've been to the gym and noticed someone scribbling notes as they train.

You may have thought they were making notes on the young ladies they've seen on the treadmill in the hope of grabbing a phone number later on.

Whilst this may be the case the likelihood is they were writing down how much weight they just lifted, how much rest they took between sets, and any number of training variables.

This is not just something from the bodybuilding world but an absolute necessity if you are to make progress with your training.

This applies to bodybuilders, runners, fitness models or simply those who want to shed body fat and look good naked!

The only way fitness training of any sort can help you improve your body is if it is centred around the concept of progressive overload.

This means that every time you perform that workout, you are lifting more weight, resting less, changing the order of the exercises, altering the exercise slightly etc.

The purpose is to constantly challenge your body so that it has to keep adapting and improving. If you perform the same things each week the body is not forced to adapt to anything and will soon hit a stand still.

If, every time you go to the gym, you make up your workouts based on what you read in a magazine or saw someone do last week, you will never get anywhere. Read that again.

You will never get anywhere.

You will waste time, money and effort and achieve absolutely nothing.

How could you be okay with that? Strangely, most gym-goers are!

Make sure you get a professional who fully understands your needs and capabilities to design you a program which challenges you but allows you to progress each week so your body has to improve!

Keeping a nutrition journal

It amazes me how foolish some people still are when it comes to fat loss. They still fall for the marketing scams which suggest you can eat what you want or keep all your favourite foods and lose body fat.

The fact is, you need to changing your eating habits and listening to experts who have proved their methods on real people.

If you don't, you will either get nowhere or you will make progress for a few weeks then slip back to where you started. You might even end up worse off if you keep yo-yo dieting!

Writing a food journal or nutrition diary has shocked many of my personal training clients into losing body fat.

The concept is simple.

First, write down everything you eat and drink over a week. This means everything. All chocolate, all crisps, all alcohol etc.

Within a few days you will be disgusted at yourself for how much fat-building crap you eat!

You can also use it to identify behavioural patterns. For instance, do you always crave chocolate mid-morning? If so, the chances are you're not eating a good enough breakfast.

If you get home and binge eat, you're probably nor eating a solid enough small meal mid-afternoon.

Compare them at the end of the week. If you haven't lost body fat you either haven't stuck to what you were supposed to eat or your planning wasn't quite up to scratch and you need to readjust.

Either way you can address the problem much quicker rather than quitting or spending weeks trying to workout the problem!
