The Secret to Commitment In Dieting
Gaining weight again and getting frustrated? That's understandable but you're forgetting something. Losing weight is not a matter of just hoping. You've got to take action and part of your action plan should be your state of mind. You've simply got to commit to losing weight and in order to succeed, you've got to be single minded. If you do this, you will lose weight, guaranteed!
Right now, you're feeling frustration and a sense of failure, right? Ok, that just puts you in a good position to take advantage of this instance of failure. Try this. Change your outlook about what you're calling failure. It's not really a failure at all. In fact, it's a success. "What?" you ask? That's right. You now know what will NOT work. This time, try it again and don't do the same thing.
You know why your diet failed this time. Be honest with yourself. No one else is inside your head so be honest. Why did your diet fail? Most likely because you failed to commit to it. You broke off somewhere and either ate something you weren't supposed to eat or you quit exercising the way you know you need to. It's one of those things and each involves commitment.
Ok, this time you need to get all those negative thoughts out of your head. Start over with a clean slate and keep a daily diary of your weight loss efforts. What did you do today that involves your commitment to losing weight? Write it down. What did you fail to do or what did you do that you know you shouldn't have? Write it down. Now ask yourself this after you read it tomorrow: does this look like commitment or just a move in the right direction that is going to produce nothing?
You now have a clear picture of what you need to do. You can see where you went wrong or what you did right. Now, just follow the right course. Do this every day like clockwork.
A daily weight loss diary will show you the way. Just be honest with yourself and commit (there's that word again) to correcting any wrongs or emphasizing any rights.
The thing is, you've got to put forth excessive effort and commitment when you are doing something that is totally against your normal nature. You've got to be consciously aware of the fact that you are weak in some areas and make an all-out effort to concentrate on addressing those particular weaknesses.
This is the secret to why some people are able to lose weight and make it look effortless. They are able to concentrate on the task at hand, which is ignoring the cravings and forcing their psyche to find another source of attention.
If you start to feel the urge to eat a weight gaining food, stop what you're doing and immediately focus your attention on another action. For instance, let's say you are watching TV and a commercial comes on about ice cream. You start to get a strong urge to eat some ice cream.
Immediately get up and walk away from the TV and do something else like get on your computer and go to your personal social networking page or walk outside and talk to a neighbor. If you're a musician, go get your instrument and start playing something difficult to play. In just a few minutes, the ice cream will simply be a memory fading.
Some may say that this is not easy to do. I'm sorry but yes it is! It is easy to do if you'll just do it. You're not going to be thinking about the ice cream if your mind is diverted. You've just got to find an effective way to divert it. It's your mind, your weight and your life. No one else can do this for you.
Quit making excuses and instead make a true commitment to your life, your health and your heart and you will find that these suggestions honestly do help you make a difference.
