Movie Theater Popcorn Making at HomeWith a Whirley Pop Popcorn Popper

Many people go to the movies just to eat great popcorn, but only a few know that you can get the great tast at home as well. The best home popcorn machine for this is a whirley pop popcorn popper. which is a stovetop popcorn maker.I t consists of an aluminum pan with a clip on lid, that has a stay-cool handle you turn while popping, which turns a stirring dasher inside of your whirley pop popcorn popper. This stirring system keeps the kernels in motion across the bottom of the whirley pop popcorn popper's pan, distributing heat and oil evenly. The steam vents on top of the whirley popper lets moisture escape.

First of all, you'll need to prepare the ingredients, based on the amount of popcorn you want to have in the end:

Quarts of Popcorn | Amount of Oil | Amount of Corn

2                         |1 tablespoon    |   1/3 Cup

4                         |2 tablespoon    |   2/3 Cup

6                         |2 tablespoon    |   1 Cup

8                         |3 tablespoon    |   1 1/4 Cups

And follow the following steps:

  1. Don't preheat popper or the oil.
  2. Put the whirley pop popper and the above ingredients onto stove (either gas or electric, it makes no difference) and turn it to medium heat. Don't add any seasoning yet, just the oil and corn.
  3. Slowly turn the crank, and adjust the stove temperature so popping is complete in about 3 minutes.
  4. Turn the crank through the entire cooking process until there is only an occasional pop of about 1 every 2 seconds.
  5. Take the popper off the stove immediately.
  6. Pour the popcorn into a serving bowl.
  7. Sprinkle with salt, butter or popcorn seasonings and enjoy :-)

Whirley Pop Popcorn Tips

  • Don't set the heat too high, medium heat is enough.
  • Don't use too much oil, 1-2 tablespoons is enough.
  • Use good quality corn.

With the recipe above, you will see, that it is very possible to make movie theater style popcorn at home. It will be healthier as well, since they add a lot of artificial ingredients to movie popcorn due to its almost mass production, so even though the Whirle pop uses oil, it will still be healthier. If you want a virtually zero calorie popcorn snack, go for a hot air popper, as it uses revolving air to pop the kernels instead of oil. The result will be a fibre rich snack, but it won't have the same taste. You can prepare seasoning and sprinkle it on, and add butter as well.
