With this type, the metal plate system that sits under the gum line is long and flat to sit along the bone rather than in it. When dentists use this style, they will open a segment of the gums and set the metal plate in place before sewing the gums closed. Some of these are attached to the bone while others need an adequate amount of time for the bone to grow around the metal to hold it in place. The number of teeth being replaced directly determines the amount of space that will be opened.
