According to them they just drink under social pressures or sometimes to relieve tensions. But without their knowledge slowly alcohol consumption becomes their habit and they cannot even imagine their lives without alcohol. This is known as alcohol addiction.

The addict will always deny that they need some treatment to come out of their addiction and hence the main work of the intervention program in Minnesota is to make the patient understand that they are addict and need treatment. For doing this they will need to plan various things and make various strategies so as to convince the addict. The family and friends of the addict will be given complete guidance by the intervention program in Minnesota on what they should say to the addict, which will have a long lasting impact on his or her mind. Something, which will make the addict join the treatment program and come out of addiction. The family members will need to prepare what they are going to say and rehearse it many times before saying it to the addict. There is a great chance that it will take a long time for the addict to get convinced to join a treatment center. In order to supervise the work the intervention program will hire a specialist, who will observe all this and give suggestions to the group. The specialist will also counsel the addict and tell them that the treatment program is not at all tough and how it will benefit the addict in a long run.

2. Helping the Addict in selecting the Treatment Center: As told earlier, there are various alcohol treatment centers in Minnesota and it is tough job to select one out of it. The one treatment center, which will give the necessary treatment to the addict according to his or her special needs. Here too the intervention specialist will be of great help to the addict.

The intervention specialist will suggest some of the best treatment centers for alcohol addiction in Minnesota. This will make the addict choose anyone treatment center according to his or her liking. The intervention specialist will also guide on which treatment program will be good for the addict based on his or her physical and mental conditions.

The intervention specialist will also help in getting admitted into the treatment center of the choice of the addict, as they will have lots of contacts with the treatment center. The specialist will also give the progress report of the patient to the family of the patient. This way the family of the addict will be assured about the changes in their loved one.

3. Helping with Relapse Prevention: The intervention program will also help once the patient comes out of the treatment center after taking the treatment. There are chances of relapse in the addiction treatment and hence the patient needs maximum care after the treatment is over. The patient may feel the urge to have alcohol and to suppress this urge the patient will need to take certain medicines and follow certain therapies.

If the patient doesn't get proper attention and care, he or she might get into a relapse easily. The work of the intervention specialist is to make the family of the patient well trained to face any such situation. The specialist will also guide the family members on hoe they should behave with the patient and how they should motivate the patient in order to help them cope with the surrounding.

In Minnesota, as in any other state, the family is the most prominent agency that provides an intervention to the alcohol patient. This really works because the family is always quite close to the patient and has a potential to motivate them to enter into treatment. The fact that the family knows the patient quite well and is probably cognizant of the emotional problems that might be working at keeping them with the addiction also helps immensely.
