All Plugged Up - Learn How to Prevent and Relieve Constipation Using Safe Remedies From Your Kitchen

There are many things which can cause a bout of constipation. Emotional issues such as worry, stress, and anxiety in addition to medications, injury and dehydration are naming only a few possible causes of this type of bowel upset. Bowel movements which are infrequent and often incomplete become hardened and thus more difficult to pass.

It is a miserable feeling which may happen occasionally or be a chronic medical condition. Many people who suffer with constipation will also often endure hemorrhoids due to the difficulty and straining involved in passing hard stools.

There are a few good natural remedies which can help this problem. The majority are connected with the amount of fiber in your diet. A balanced diet with adequate fiber and whole grains will help diminish constipation. Dehydration is also a contributing factor to constipation. This makes it even more important to drink at least the minimum amount of water your body requires every day. If you are not fond of the taste of water, there are many different ways to flavor it using fresh fruit, or, flavored water can be purchased in grocery, convenience or drug stores.

Here are some great, natural ways to relieve and prevent constipation:

It is said that eating a portion of potatoes each day will prevent most constipation concerns.

You can also try one half-cup of sunflower seeds daily. Once again, the seeds give you the necessary fiber that your digestive system needs in order to process food.

Cooked red beets, oatmeal and bran are also good and natural remedies for constipation.

Try eating a banana every day.

Ingesting honey daily can help relieve constipation woes.

Each morning, drink one cup of warm water mixed with one-half teaspoon of lemon juice and one teaspoon of olive oil. Do this on an empty stomach.

Also on an empty stomach, swallow two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with a glass of water, or simply drink two glasses of warm water immediately upon awakening.

You know they say that eating an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but did you know that this one, juicy apple can also help keep constipation away?

Soak fresh plums in water overnight and drink the water in the morning. You may also want to eat the plums if you like them. Dried dates may also be used in this manner.

A mixture of dried figs, plum concentrate, and half a teaspoon of paraffin oil, mixed with one cup of borsch, lemon and honey, and drink it down.

You may also want to try drinking tomato juice each day or eating a couple of fresh tomatoes.

A rather bitter remedy for constipation which is effective is to drink one-quarter teaspoon of Epsom salts in half a glass of warm water. Drink it immediately and in a single gulp or you may not be able to finish it!

Home remedies are terrific, but prevention is even better. One way to help prevent chronic constipation is to eat a lot of green leafy vegetables. Parsley and lettuce are the most effective for constipation and a good salad each day with other vegetables will help remedy your constipation problem.

Honey, horseradish and oatmeal are three additional foods which have a positive effect on digestion and will help treat and prevent bouts of constipation.

One last note, if you tend to suffer from constipation, you limit your intake of white breads and pastas. Just remember, nothing beats a well-rounded and healthy diet to keep your digestive tract running smoothly and in tip-top health!
