Basic Elements Of Rehab Program For Drug Addiction

When most people think about options for drug addiction treatment, the option that most prominently comes to their mind is the rehab program. This is definitely the most publicized drug addiction treatment option in the world, especially in the advanced countries like the USA where facilities for such treatments are present. In all the fifty states of the US, there are excellent rehab program facilities, replete will state-of-the-art medication that are designed to bring patients completely out of their dependencies and into a life of sobriety. Apart from that, the rehab programs are indeed designed in a very careful manner so that the patients get all the components of the treatment program that are needed to make them recover.

Hence, it is no surprise if you are looking for a rehab program for treating your family member's drug addiction problem too. But before that, it is wise if you acquaint yourself with the main elements of the program. The following are these vital elements.

Patient Analysis

All rehab programs begin with a complete analysis of the patient. This can take a long time, because the patient will be subjected to various tests to check that they are in a good state of body. It is very important to look into the physical capacity of the person because the rehab program also includes the detox treatment in which there are great chances of the patient suffering from heavy withdrawal symptoms. Several tests will be conducted on the patient to assess their physical constitution. There may also be conversations held with the patient in order to analyze the mental condition of the patient. This is extremely important because a person who is with some kind of emotional problems will find it much more difficult to accept treatment.

For people who are with such kinds of problems, there is the dual diagnosis treatment approach. Here the patients are treated for coexisting conditions in a simultaneous manner.

Intervention Phase

Sometimes it becomes necessary to plan out an intervention to encourage the patient to go ahead with the treatment. In most cases, the families will have convinced the patient to go ahead with the treatment, but it is a very common scenario to see the patient slipping back into the denial once he or she is in the environment of the treatment center.

The rehab center will liaise with the family of the patient to rework an intervention program. They will ask a family group to come over and help in motivating the patient for going through the treatment program. They will also train the family in how they should go about with the program. The main intention here is to make the patient ready to accept the form of treatment that is being planned for them.

Detoxification Phase

This can be called as the main part of the addiction treatment program. This is the medical phase of the treatment where the person's body is freed from the toxic materials that can cause them health complications in the future, even if they have managed to overcome the addiction in some way or the other. The basic intention of the detoxification is to keep the person's body clean from the addictive substance. In any case, as long as the substance is present within the body, it is very difficult to bring them out of the addiction because the residual substance will not allow the urge of the substance to vanish from the person.

The length of the total detox program will depend on several factors, including how addicted the person is, what substance the patient is addicted to, since how long the patient has been addicted to the substance, has there been any health or mental complications, etc. If the situation is bad, the patient may be treated through a more elaborate method such as the dual diagnosis program.

Aftercare Phase

The aftercare phase is the longest phase of the rehab program. This is the phase where the patient is actually trained to come out of the pangs of the substance. The patient is counseled on methods that can help keep their addiction urge at bay. They will be taught some meditation and relaxation exercises for this. They will also be counseled for their individual emotional issues so that they can be removed if they have a bearing on the person's addiction.

One of the most significant aspects of the aftercare phase is the family counseling program. Here the families of the patients are trained on how they can deal with the situation that someone in the house is undergoing and addiction treatment and what they can do to actually help the patient recover sooner.
