Fibrocystic Breasts Natural Treatments

During your monthly test of your breast a lump is found and of course fear follows. Stop, it does not have to be cancer, it could be lumpy breast. The medical term is fibrocystic breast and about seventy percent of women have it at some point in there life mostly during childbearing years. After menopause the cysts will get smaller or may disappear.

*Cyst is a closed, usually sphere-shaped, membranous sac that develops in human tissue and contains fluid or semisolid (gel like) material. Some types of cysts form when glands are blocked but are usually benign.

When large amounts of estrogen are introduced into your system these lumps can appear ranging from the size of BB to the size of an egg. The introduction can be from hormone replacement therapy or when estrogen stimulates milk glands causing them to accumulate fluid and swell. Sometime milk ducks became clogged or did not drain properly.

Because there is no cure for this condition some doctors advises hormone therapy approach others advises nutritional regimen without the side effects of hormone therapy as well as dietary changes. Let's take a look at the nutritional and dietary changes.

*There are other types of lump or tumor and they are soft tissue benign tumors or noncancerous tumors. They usually do not move and therefore cannot spread. However they can cause serious problem by pressing against vital parts in the body such as a nerve or the brain. They can appear almost any place, within and between muscles, nerves, ligaments and blood vessels. They may or may not cause pain however when a lump is found always have a health care provider evaluate your discovery.

Trim saturated fats and caffeine from your diet because they increase estrogen levels and this stimulant could cause fibrocystic changes. According to a Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in East Lansing, women who eliminated caffeine reduced their symptoms between sixty and sixty-five percent. Caffeine also includes cola, chocolate and tea.

Boosting your fiber is a great complement to reducing fat because fiber absorbs estrogen. Dr David P Rose, M.D., D.Sc. Ph.D. of Naylor Dana Institute of the American Health Foundation in Valhalla, New York, recommends women to intake twenty-five to thirty grams of fiber a day. When possible avoid animal fat and eat nonfat dairy products.

Get rid of excess fluid, this could be a problem also start by lowering your sodium intake to fifteen hundred milligrams a day which is not much since a teaspoon is two thousand milligrams. These are foods that will help decrease fluid retention; cucumbers, parsley and celery.

Gamma-linolenic acid, evening primrose, will help to relieve fibrocystic breasts. Evening Primrose regulates salt and water balance. Some doctors recommend taking 1,000 milligrams three times daily for three months. But as always check with your health care provider before starting or changing you medical and supplement regimen.

"Vitamin E works for women with fibrocystic breasts", says Dr Susan M. Lark, M.D. author "Women's Wellness Today" and of PMS: Self-Help Book and Menopause and a physician specializing in women's health. Dr Lark recommends 600 IU of vitamins E along with 50mg B6 not to exceed 100mg daily according to Dr Bernard Ginsberg M.D. of Santa Monica, CA. Do not try to get this high amount of vitamin E from a supplement. Add to your daily diet safflower oil, almonds, sunflower oil and wheat germ.

Vitamin A is another supplement that will relieve breast pain. A study was conducted at the University of Montreal, 12 women with medium to relentless pain were given large doses of vitamin A for three months. Nine experienced great pain relief, and 5 had fewer breast lumps.

The daily dose was 150,000 IU a day; most doctors are not comfortable with giving their patients a dose this large, since vitamin A is toxic in high doses.

Dr Lark suggests taking between 25,000 and 50,000 IU of beta-carotene because it converts to vitamin A in the body and is not toxic in large dosage. This supplement could be purchased. But remember your natural resources, eating orange and yellow fruits and vegetables could possibly get that level of IUs. A sweet potato alone has about 10,000 IU of beta carotene according to Dr Lark.

Fibrocystic Breasts are not cancerous and in most cases changing your diet could relieve your symptom. Do not try to intake large qualities of supplements but add food that do the same thing. Have all lumps evaluated and consult your health care provider before changing your medications or adding supplements.
