It is most assuredly untrue that methadone is only for "indoor patients", i.e., residential patients. Methadone treatment is used almost exclusively in outpatient settings, and once the patient is stable, they are not impaired by their dose and are able to drive, work, and do all normal activities. Addiction and dependence are two very different things. Stable patients may be said to be dependent upon either Suboxone or Methadone, but are not "addicted" to them unless they are abusing the drug, using more than prescribed, escalating their dose, obsessing over taking more, etc.

Methadone and Suboxone target different addict populations with some overlap. Methadone targets those with long term, heavy addictions who are unlikely to be helped by Suboxone due to it's ceiling affect.Suboxone targets those with lighter, shorter term addictions. There is NO reason to denigrate one medication and laud another one--both are needed.
