The Functioning Of A Rehab Program In Oregon

Rehabilitation or rehab has a different meaning in different parts of the world. In countries outside the US, rehabilitation usually means trying to bring a person from a higher level of dependency to a lower level. The intention is to make the person reduce the amount of addictive substance they are taking in their body. However, in most of the US, including in the state of Oregon, the meaning of rehabilitation is to bring the person completely out of their dependency. The intention is to make the person forget the habit completely. In that regard, the rehab program in Oregon is quite severe.

The rehab program in Oregon is implemented in three stages. Basically, this is an inpatient program in which the patient is supposed to live away from their families in a medically controlled center where they can be provided with complete care and attention. It is important to isolate these patients because they need to be kept away from any substance or incident that might trigger a memory of the addiction in them. The place where a person is provided with rehab treatment in Oregon is called as a rehab center.

Here, the program will be divided mainly into three phases. These are the intervention phase, the detoxification phase and the aftercare phase which extends to a long period, sometimes even up to a year, after the detox is completed.

We shall take a look at the three phases of the rehab program in Oregon in detail.

The Intervention Phase

This is the part of the treatment where the patient is made to realize the importance of the treatment. The value of why he or she is in an addiction treatment center is explained. They are made to understand how their lives can be in jeopardy if they do not seek treatment at the right time and how they stand to lose everything they have earned, including friendships and relationships.

It is significant to intervene in this manner because patients do not normally become ready to undergo addiction treatments. A patient who will not be ready for treatment will not respond to the treatment either and their recovery will become quite an uphill task. That is the reason rehab centers spend some time in motivating and convincing the patient that the treatment is indeed necessary. There might be psychiatric counselors and therapists brought in too, in order to evaluate the patient's emotional condition.

The Detoxification Phase

This is the medical part of the treatment in which the patient is made to stay in a completely healthy setting and in complete absence of the substance of addiction. Resultantly, the patient faces a withdrawal. This is then medically treated. There are different kinds of medicinal therapies for different kinds of addictions. A suitable therapy is selected according to the patient's nature of addiction and its intensity. The main intention here is to completely remove the substance from the body of the patient. This is only possible if the patient is made to abstain from the substance without any apparent health effects.

The need of the detox treatment is very high because without removing the substance from the body of the patient, he or she will not be able to come out of the craving for using it. This will make their recovery from the addiction much more difficult. At the same time, it is important to detoxify the patients because the risks of health complications due to the presence of the substance in their body need to be eliminated.

Detox takes anywhere between a day and a month, usually depending on what kind of substance the person is addicted to, the health and psychiatric setup of the person and how well he or she can come out of the withdrawal.

The Aftercare Phase

While the detoxification phase tries to remove the addictive substance from the body of the person, the aftercare tries to remove the tendency of using the substance completely from the person's mind. Thus, it is the aftercare that is most important in keeping the person addiction free.

Psychiatric counseling is used in most cases to verify and treat any emotional issues that might be keeping the patients with their addictions. Also, they are taught various therapies and methods including breathing exercises, relaxation exercises and the like that will help them to stay out of developing any cravings for the substance in question.

The three phases of the rehab program in Oregon are designed so that they can permanently treat addictions in people and help them live a recovered life. When looking for an option on rehabilitation in the state, make sure they have these three vital phases of the treatment process.
