Excersise and Cellulite

When Mike turned 45, he was fifty-five pounds overweight. He decided to change his lifestyle around and by strict dieting he lost that extra weight quickly. He also lost his energy though, he began to feel tired and exhausted all the time. Discouraged, Mike quit dieting. Two years later, he signed up for a new fitness program at his local gym since he had put back on all that weight. This time though, he exercised a lot more and was not as strict with his dieting. Mike lost the weight and gained energy. He felt the best he ever had and loved the new way his body looked.
What was the difference between the two times? The first time Mike lost weight; the second time he lost fat. There is a world of difference. Research shows that a large portion of weight lost by dieting is active tissue, such as muscle and connective tissue, and a smaller portion of that is excess fat. Exercise however has the opposite effect. Active tissue actually increased and his excess fat decreased
Same thing goes with cellulite. When exercising regularly, cellulite will decrease. Many people tend to think cellulites are only present in obese people, which is why they associate cellulite with fat and obesity.
Actually though, cellulite is a chain of wrinkled “fat cells” and “subcutaneous connective tissues” beneath the layer of the skin. Cellulite should not be associated with people who are fat or obese because there are many people who have cellulite in their bodies who are not fat in the slightest.
No one knows the reason why some people accumulate cellulite and some don’t. There are some factors that health experts are considering such as how a persons body processes fat and the structure of it in the body. Some say it may be caused by some hormone changes in the body. No conclusive evidence has been presented on the subject though.
Most cellulite cases appear in women and the belief is that since the connective tissues of women are more rigid and firm that that of men, when a women has fat cells they tend to swell and appear much larger. This creates the skin protrusion and orange peel look that people dread.
Because of this, women are more prone to cellulite in the body then men. If a woman wants to avoid cellulite accumulation she must take extra care since her increased risk.
Fats and Cellulite
Obese people often believe that the cellulites in their bodies are caused by having too much fat. This is not strictly true, but in many cases it seems that being overweight can really trigger the development of of cellulites. This is because too much fat under the skin push the connective tissue, creating a strain on the skin. As that strain continues, Cellulite is formed.
However, this depends on the individual. Some peoples skin does not tend to bulge or expand even if there are large fat deposits under the skin.
Since there is no way to predict who will and will not get cellulite the best thing to do is avoid accumulating excess fat and keep tissue firm by exercising regularly and losing any current excess fat. To accomplish this, we have only three methods: (1) decrease food intake and keep activity constant; (2) increase activity and keep food intake constant; or (3) combine both approaches: diet and exercise.
Option 3 is the best choice since Physical activity can help reverse the results of inactivity. An hour of vigorous exercise burns up 300 to 600 calories. By cutting 300 to 500 calories from your daily menu, you will most likely lose weight at the rate of one to two pounds a week.
Without exercise, you would have to eat 500 to 1,000 less calories a day to lose 1-2 pounds a week. Severely obese people only have this option though since a severely obese person should exercise only under medical supervision to prevent strain on the cardiovascular system and connective tissue. Also remember that no one should drastically reduce their food intake without consulting a doctor first since this is risky business.
Remember our friend Mike? He started dieting by just eating less with the idea that he would eventually lose all the excess fat. However the problem is that he lost connective tissues rather than that excess fat.
If you are prone to cellulite, losing connective tissue is a big problem. Losing connective tissues instead of fat can make the skin more prone to cellulite since the fat cells are still there and the connective tissues are weakened.
Hence, if you wish to lose your cellulite or excess fat safely, it is key to exercise and not just diet. By engaging in a regular exercise program it gives the body a safe and effective way to get rid of fat. Good luck on your journey to being cellulite free.
