How To Choose the Best Nutrition Course - 3 Important Tips to Choosing Nutrition Courses

To be honest, just about anyone can become a certified Nutritionist. There are several programs out there that cost a few hundred dollars where you can spend just a few days going over some material, then take a test, and 'voila!' you are now a Nutritionist...with a certificate that you completed a short program.

But here's the honest truth about this path...

After going through this minimal process, you may have a piece of paper that says you are a Nutritionist, but in the real career world of health and wellness (where skills and training and career credentials are very important), that piece of paper from a short workshop does not mean much.

We are at a great time in the profession of Nutrition. Every day the awareness of proper nutrition is growing and becoming a greater part of people's lives. Our work is as Nutrition consultants is becoming recognized more and more as a viable, solid and respected long-term profession. And more and more people are seeking our expertise to become healthier, lose weight, get in shape, and stay healthy.

So, If you are thinking about this industry as a career, here are 3 things that you should really know if you want to choose the best Nutrition course:

1. Go to a good school - Now, by 'good school' I'm not saying that shorter programs are poor quality. I'm just saying that they do not set you up with the best skills and training for the best long-term career. Imagine if M.D.s went to a medical school that was made up of a few weekend workshops. Would you feel comfortable with them overseeing your health or your family's health? Absolutely not.

"As a Nutritionist, you are a health and wellness professional."

You owe it to yourself and your clients to get the best possible education. It will serve you better, your clients better, and the industry better. And it's okay if that training costs more, because you make it back much quicker in your career if you have taken Nutrition courses that make you a professional with skills and knowledge that is in-demand.

2. Be business-minded - Education for education's sake is a beautiful thing. But I like to be honest and point out that all of us need to make a living. And how great if we can make a living doing something we love and helping other people. I've seen so many people go through years of education and graduate with incredible skills...but then find that they don't have the business savvy to know how to market them. So, my advice, is when you are talking with schools offering Nutrition courses and programs, make sure to ask them about their career support and training. You want to join a school who will give you a great education and then show you how to apply it as a real career.

3. Join a School with a "Community" - This advice can apply to anyone no matter what their passion. But I wanted to say it here. If you want to excel at anything you do in life, it helps so much to have a network of people who will grow and evolve with you for years to come. Many nutrition programs are conducted 'Online' these days. These programs are great in so many ways. But make sure that you join one with a strong alumni group and a framework in place that keeps classmates in-touch even after graduation.

I hope that these pointers help you in your process of choosing the best Nutrition course for you. You can probably see that I take a very holistic approach to it. It's not enough to think about just getting a quick piece of paper with a title on it. And the 'education' you get is just one element of many that will make up your long-term happiness and success. Think about all the elements and where you really want to take yourself with this profession. You will serve yourself much better in the end.
