Treating A Cold Sore - Top Remedies For Your Cold Sores

Treating a cold sore incorrectly can cause you undo discomfort and social problems.

This article addresses the three main cold sore stages and the top methods for treating a cold sore for each stage.

Getting and treating a cold sore is not pleasant to say the least. They are a huge pain in your social life and can last up to four weeks. Ouch!

Here are the stages of an oral herpes event and the right way of treating a cold sore at each stage for your best success.

EARLY WARNING SYSTEM FOR COLD SORES.

Normally the oral herpes simplex virus is latent in the root cells of your nerves. When this virus senses a weakness in your immune system, it will actively travel to the surface along a nerve.

You can feel this activity as a tingling, burning or itching at the site of your pending outbreak. Within a couple hours or two days a new sore will form.

You must act quickly. As soon as you sense this virus movement, get ice or other cold object on the site. The faster you respond, the better the results.

Application of cold discourages virus activity. It will slow the progression of the sore, and sometimes even prevent it by send the virus back into hiding.

Possibly you have heard of lysine for treating a cold sore. Well it really does work. Now is the time to start taking those lysine capsules.

Normally for treating a cold sore most people take about 3000 milligrams daily until the oral herpes cold sore is gone.

GROWING STAGE OF YOUR COLD SORES.

The development stage of your cold sores begins when the herpes simplex virus particles enter many surface nerve cells for the purpose of forcing the cells to create new virus.

This causes very painful little red bumps. Swelling also occurs as the cells fill up with new oral herpes virus stretching the cell walls to their limit.

Treating a cold sore with ice at this stage is still a very good cold sore treatment. This will continue to reduce pain and swelling as it discourages the virus from replicating.

Better than ice - use frozen wet tea bags. Tea has some very useful nutrients that will help against viruses.

It would be wise to start applying garlic oil at this time. Garlic is a strong anti-viral that will go directly to the virus right through the skin. It is very good cold sore treatment.

But always use fresh cut or crushed garlic cloves whenever possible. It is many times stronger than the garlic oil you get in bottles or gel-caps.

THE LONG HEALING STAGE.

Once the cells reach capacity they burst open like water balloons - spilling out hoards of new herpes virus. The virus has done its damage and your sore now enters the healing stage.

Stop using ice and start applying heat. The best way to apply heat is to use warm tea bags. The tea also contains some powerful healing nutrients. Yes, it may be a little messy but it really speeds healing.

You should also keep taking lysine supplements and applying fresh garlic oil. Also once the sore opens up, it is very important to cleanse it regularly.

Use alcohol or hydrogen peroxide soaked tissues or cotton balls. Use once and throw away. I have seen wine work very well for this also.

Cleanse the sore, apply garlic oil then apply heat for 15 minutes or so. After you are done with the heat, apply Aloe Vera gel.

Aloe Vera makes skin grow real fast. Use fresh gel from a live plant leaf.

A WORD OF CAUTION.

The herpes simplex virus is terribly contagious. You can infect other locations on your face and body - as well as other people. If you get it in your eyes, you will likely damage your vision.

Whenever treating a cold sore, try to not touch the sore with your bare fingers. Wash hands often. Use hand sanitizing gel if available. Touch the sore only with throw-away tissues.

Treating a cold sore is not difficult but you must be careful not to make it worse or spread it.

Using proven cold sore treatment methods, as mentioned in this article, will give you the best success in treating a cold sore.
