Easy Ways To It

Each day we open the supplement of the daily newspaper, we find a column dedicated to health, telling us what and how much we should eat, how often we must exercise etc. Let’s break free from the monotony and explore the other factors that contribute to a good health.

Here are some simple tips that one needs to follow in order to stay healthy and fit. Apart from all the diet patterns that are followed, these must also be given enough importance, because without these, no amount of exercise or diet control can contribute to being healthy.

• PERSONAL HYGIENE:

All of us know that microorganisms or germs as they are colloquially called, are ubiquitous. They bring about the majority of the diseases and maintenance of personal hygiene is very important in order to prevent being infected by them.

- ORAL HYGIENE: This is very important as much of the germs gain entry only through the mouth. Teeth must be properly brushed, at least twice a day. A visit to the dentist once in six months is mandatory.
- GROOMING OF BODY: Keeping the body clean is a must. Bathing everyday and always keeping check on skin infections will keep major ailments at bay. Nails must be trimmed regularly as they harbour much of the dust and germs.

• CLEAN ENVIRONMENT:

Cleanliness is equal to Godliness. On top of having ourselves clean, we must make sure that our environment is clean too, as this has a major bearing on our health. The house must be kept neat and free from dust. Those who have pets at home must be extra careful, as the hairs of the pet may cause ailments such asthma. Wastes must be disposed off on a daily basis the cooking be done with clean vessels.

As we travel on the busy roads, we are constantly exposed to vehicular smoke that consists of Carbon monoxide, which is poisonous and when inhaled, disrupts the transport of oxygen by the blood. This can be practically controlled by wearing a mask while driving. Once we get back home, we can sit back and do some deep breathing exercises, which can to a certain extent, remove the toxins inhaled.

We must at best try avoiding exposure to harmful radiations and hazardous chemicals. For those who are involved in occupations that require the constant handling of such chemicals, the necessary precautions must be sought after.

• SAY A BIG NO TO SMOKING AND DRINKING:

Habit dies hard. These are some, which are immortal. What may start as a social habit may prove to be fatal after a point of time. Abstinence is the best prevention for, its always better to be safe than sorry. For those who are already into it, its time to wake up and seek help through counseling. Going easy on it will spare the lungs and the liver. Everybody must know the ill effects of tobacco and alcohol. Life is precious and must not be given prey to such “poisons”.

• AN EVEN BIGGER NO TO SELF MEDICATION:

This is something that is easily overlooked. All of us cannot become doctors and we must understand, that there are professionals out there to treat our troubles. Heading to the pharmacy straightaway, without the prescription of a doctor may prove to be very dangerous. In the idea of cutting down on the doctor’s consultation fee, one must not end up paying exorbitant bills at the hospitals. Home remedies that are harmless, can however be tried to get some relief before the doctor’s appointment.

• REGULAR HEALTH CHECK UPS:

Periodic health check up is very important to monitor one’s health status. A master health check up must be done once a year for people who have hit the forties, the reports of which can be discussed with a general physician. Constant monitoring of weight, blood pressure must be done at least once a month.

The above mentioned ideals are very important to life and there is no question of compromise on them. These must be practiced as rituals and by doing so, a healthy life would be at our easy reach.
