How To Prepare Mentally For Menopause Symptoms

Menopause is a time in a woman's life she's got to have... those women who have been through it and not handled it too well would most certainly disagree. Who could blame them! Recognizing menopause symptoms can be a little tricky during the early phase because it's a new experience and many symptoms are mistaken as signs for other ailments.

Highly irregular periods; in some cases, up to three times a month or, you may suddenly go three to four months without a period and immediately have thoughts of pregnancy on your mind. For some, this is an uncomfortable experience to say the least especially when you are well into your 40's. A visit to your doctor will usually put your mind at ease... or will it?

When he or she utters those famous words..."you've just been experiencing menopause symptoms...congratulations! It's your time..." how do you respond?

How Do You Handle Menopause Symptoms?

It's important at this stage to be well prepared mentally for what's about to follow. To sail through life and know menopause will be a factor at some stage but not prepare for it will usually be a "hard pill to swallow" for many women when it arrives. Menopause affects many women mentally more than physically with symptoms such as unpredictable mood swings, depression and in many cases low spirits.

It's a scary time for a women. If you have been a passive and understanding person most of your life and suddenly you are prone to unfamiliar mood swings let's face it, it's scary not just for yourself, but those around you. It's like a possession has just taken place and thoughts of calling in a priest must run through a lot of minds!

The Changes Occurring Within A Woman's Body

Understanding what's happening during the early symptoms phase will ease a lot of that tension and worry. You need to remember, this is the time in a woman's life where her body is shutting down future production quotas and apart from the mental symptoms, physical symptoms such as irregular periods, hot flashes and night sweats will in most instances be a part of that process. The aim in the early phase is to transition from pre to post menopause as smoothly as possible. Remaining in a good frame of mind is an important part of this.

Depression and mood swings seem to be part and parcel of the menopause symptom process and evidence suggests this could have a lot to do with irregular sleep patterns due to hot flashes and other hormonal imbalances.

Treatment For Menopause Symptoms

Hormonal imbalances occurring during this time have a swag of side effects. Hormonal Replacement Therapy (HRT) is first and foremost on a woman's mind in most cases because it's the best known and most popular treatment process. However, try not to be too hasty going ahead with this treatment until you've sat down and had a good chat with your physician.
Discuss and explore all the treatment options and it may very well be that more natural methods will appeal to you.
