Fire Place Screens: Can Be Practical And Aesthetic Applications To The Home
Today homes cater to the heating equipment like the electric heater and other heating systems. Before they were created, the ones that provided the American homes with warmth during times of cold, like the winter season, were fireplaces. A fireplace is usually attached to a wall and serves to house the fire that one starts with it. In the days before electronic heating system, they were the ones that the family turned to and huddled around to keep them warm from the cold. In fact, I remember one particular family movie which presented the scene of a family huddling around the room where their fireplace was located, sipping hot chocolate and swapping stories. It was a happy scene. And indeed, when the word fireplace could not help but evoke those visions of warmth and family in me.
Almost every thing that we use will work better with complements. Complements are those that the support or enhance something to make it better for use or consumption. An example of a pair of complements is the ever-common bread and butter. Yes, we can eat bread alone, but it will not be as tasty without butter to go with it. Similarly, butter would not be very appealing if it is not spread on bread. The mechanism of the fireplace works this way, too. The fireplace has its complement that will enable it to better function than without it. The common complement of the fireplace is called the fire place screens
What are fireplace screens? They are the ones put in front of the hearth of the fire place in order to protect the room where the fireplace is from smoke, ashes and sparks that may escape result from the flames and may escape it. This is the basic function and purpose of fire place screens, mostly at the time when fireplaces were still the main source of warmth for many American homes. Nowadays, however, these screens now serve another purpose, in accordance to the new function that a fire place is now categorized: mostly for decor. Thus, there are two ways that the screen for the fireplace can be used: for practical and aesthetic application.
Practical application.
As a practical application, the fireplace screen can serve as safeguard for the resulting inconveniences that the fire may produce. Ashes, smoke and sparks from the fire may go into the room where the fireplace is at, and this may ruin the carpets that you place in it or the floors. The screen is also a safety measure for the people who wish to huddle in the warmth of the fire or the kids that would choose to play in the room.
When there are windows in the room that contains the fireplace, there is a possibility of wind coming in. Without the screen, the fire inside it would flame bigger; you might get overwhelmed by the heat. The screen prevents this because the can minimize the undesired effect of the wind interference.
Aesthetic application.
Today fireplace screens are now used as complements to the fireplace in terms being decorative pieces. Now that the places where families could once burn a fire in are now seen more for decoration than for function, their screens are now seen that way too. There are fireplace screens sold today that are very artistic in design and style, with many different pieces to choose from. As decorative pieces, these screens are certainly good eye-candies.
